    Has the clips for one.

Has anyone ever seen one? Google no help.

    Does look terrible.

I would imagine that this person had a shop make one up.
Those dash snap connections are into plastic and that sounds like a big problem waiting to happen.

I usually drove my British cars with the tonneau in place just because putting the hood (top) up was such a PITA.

But the Z top is so quick and effortless that having a tonneau would seem to me to be an affectation more than a useful option.

The seller does use one of my favorite listing expressions: "easy fix".

I have always wanted to build a "go-kart-z" completely stripped down to the essentials. I'm talking no convertible top here and no frame.

This is always how i envisioned dealing with a rainstorm if i had it parked outside.

Never considered taking the drill to a healthy example though.

That does sound like fun, how much weight do you think you could strip off?

I have a 97 2.8 I bought for that exact purpose. Didn't pay much for it, wasn't in great shape, plan was to strip it and see how light I could get it and make it a track car. I even planned on going full balls to the wall with stripping it by removing the entire wiring harness and just wiring back in the bare essentials. Rainstorm schmaintstorm, put a drain in the floorboard and put the wiring on top of the trans tunnel.

Been stored on the side of my mother-in-law's house for 2 (3?) years now. Whoops. Maybe I'll get around to it eventually.

That's funny to me: you lamenting about not getting more done on your cars. I'd be satisfied with half your motivation.... OK, a fourth ....

Me too. I have a golf cart project, an old car project, a camper/car hauler conversion project, a pontoon aluminum welding repair project, an old outboard restoration project, a timing chain project on a Nissan...
Made me tired to list all of this. Oh and I have a long todo list for the Z. I need motivation! Wink.

I bet I could get it to 2,000lbs. Once you remove the entire stereo, a/c system, all the interior trim, carpets, convertible top w/ frame and pump, bumper weights, windshield washer tank, heater core, heater controls, dashboard, door cards, carpets etc. you should be close. Headlights, hood, fenders etc. can also go - I figure an e36 hood is enough to cover the engine, plus a set of sealed bi-led projectors should do nicely mounted directly to the radiator support.

Problem is I already have a Z that's complete and little sh!t keeps breaking. I'm also trying to renovate a rental property, and keep my own house and yard looking good, plus pay attention to my job, plus go on dates / my wife, plus our daughter does cross country and track and our son does travel baseball and the dog needs to be walked yadda yadda yadda...

I don't think I've done anything on any of my cars in... months. I barely even have time to drive the BMW's these days (put 7,000+ miles on my new-to-me F150 in two months though, lol). Haven't been doing nothing, but mostly house work - and a lot of work work.

2,000 lbs would be crazy light, especially with an S54 ... or a V8 ... in it. But same as you other life priorities take priority lol.
