I'm pretty good at finding go-fast parts for just about any car out there....however I'm having hard time finding basics for my newly acquired 2000 740iL 4.4L V8 5spd auto.
Please help with:
1. Cold Air Intake
2. Throttle body (other than dinan)
3. Rear diff ring and pinion upgrades
4. Speakers...doors, deck lid
5. Do they make cam n lifter kits for 4.4L?
I'm new to this BMW world but not cars. Just can't seem to find stuff. Thanks in advance.
1. Make your own or find a Dinan (rare and $400). Not sure if there are any other aftermarket available at the moment (Cosmo Racing, etc).
2. Search for threads on the N62 4.8 throttle body, easy and cheap.
If doing 1. and 2., you might be interested in a 4" MAF housing to go between them which people machine and post on eBay. That would definitely require a tune as well.
3. People don't usually mess with the internals, they usually just get a 3.15 from a 740i Sport for $250 and swap the whole diff in place of the 2.93 on your iL. You can find the casing size from some threads, however, and find some internals that will fit. Building your own LSD (E38 never came with LSD) will run a minimum of $800, more depending on quality.
4. BSW ($$$) or DIY for doors, search for Monsoon if you want to keep the rear deck box, otherwise put a sub in the trunk.
5. VAC may have had one at some point, never heard of anyone actually buying/installing any.
There are performance cams from VAC for the pre-Vanos (1996-1998) engines, but I haven't seen any for the Vanos engines (1999 and up). The Vanos makes it tricky to make aftermarket cams so there really aren't any out there.
This is the reality check that a lot of new BMW owners have to face— the M62tu is not an LS where you can bolt on an extra 150hp. Every extra horsepower will cost you $$$ on an M62tu. So most of us either leave the engines stock or seek other options like swapping in an S62 (400hp) or supercharging the M62tu. Either way costs $$$$$.

The air intake is already cold and sufficiently sized, and you probably won't notice much difference, if any, with a bigger throttle body either.
The single items that could make a big performance difference are changing the diff ratio or a supercharger (which are different orders of magnitude price-wise).
Cut off the snorkel on the airbox, 3.15 diff and add an M60 manifold.
Otherwise supercharger is the go fast device.

Was reading requirements for a stage 2 and stage 3 tune that it needs a high flow CAI and intake manifold to work. Is that true? That's why I was asking about the CAI
Realistically, no. If you need extra flow, follow the guide below.
The manifold is $50-70 at your favorite junkyard, from any 540\740 before 1999.

Well.....I could.....swap in a GM LS engine. I have read alot about that and has been done. But I don't wanna do that to a nice BMW
