    E36-Ls1 from OZ

Just thought i'd throw up a post of my E36-LS1 from Australia.
Was a 325i 2dr. Been 9 months in the build. Designed all bits myself (mounts etc) as i couldn't find a 'kit' for RHD.

Will hopefully be ready to drive within the next week.

Only has mild mods, exhaust, MAFLESS tune, underdrive pulley, intake. I hope to do the cam/heads in the near future.

    Very cool.

I noticed that nobody puts that tubular cross member back. I know that it can't be put on in the same location due to trans, but there are extra set of tapped holes just couple of inches further back. Any reason not to put it back there?

Thank you. I was going to powdercoat or annodise all the alloy black to go for a more OEM look, but the fab work seems too nice to cover up like that.

Twin 3", into single 3 1/2" system, all stainless.

Greabox crossmember-I wanted to keep the exhaust as high as possible to keep good ground clearance. This was later powder coated.

    Extractors before being ceramic coated

    More

Was tight fitting 4-1 1 7/8 pipes/steering column and starter all on the RHS side

I had a 1 piece 3" shaft made up, with a custom rear to suit the BMW flange.

I'm only running the BMW 6cyl diff atm, but plan to change over to something stronger once i have it running.

By the way did you leave the original steering shaft or planning on using something more low profile?

    Cats are 3" Magnaflows

Original steering shaft, i have 10-15mm clearance all the way around, so no need to go smaller.

Drove this up and down the driveway this afternoon
It sounds pretty tough just sitting in the car, nothing like the old BMW 6.
I still have a few more small jobs to do before i take it for a proper drive up the street (like wire up the ABS :w: ). Getting oh so close now.

They are 'Difillipos' which is a local drag racer that makes some exhaust parts. Nothing too special though, stainless 3 1/2" offset, stainless wool packed. I'm sure plenty of other places make the same thing.

How did you do the headers?
Did you modify a set of off-the-shelf long tubes or build them from scratch?

    Very inspiring work

Thank you. Headers were made from a kit, whihc came as 2x flanges, and a box of mandrel bends. So made from scratch effectively.

Sweet build. How is your air intake routed and where is the air filter? It looks like the tube is going behind and then under the radiator?

Thanks. the intake pipe (4") winds its way under the RH chassis rail and into behind the air intake on the bumper. I have a small box built down there and a deflector, with a pod filter there. Should pick up plenty of cold air, and not be directly in the elements.

    It's alive
Small problem-Pulling out of the driveway i realised it has no brakes :O. Well very little in the way of retardation anyway, so just a small run up and down the street :knock:.
I just gave it 3/4 throttle 1st-2nd-3rd. Has some serious grunt compared to before. :w:
Now off to look at what is wrong with the brakes so i can give it a proper run

very nice work. Seems the brake boster has plenty of clearance on the RH drive. Was the ABS unit relocated or was it always where it is? I've never seen under the hood of a RH drive before.

Also extra + for doing the headers yourself.
