I've read several threads and e-mails over the past months about whether or not it's possible to transfer ownership of an AMB transponder when it's sold as used or goes along with the sale of a race car.
I contacted AMB-IT directly and just got off the phone with them. This is how I understand it.
As a subsequent owner of a transponder you have some options.
1) You can continue to use the transponder number with no action. All data will continue to be logged in the original owner's name on mylaps. If you have the original owner's account name and password you can access the data.
2) You can pay a fee of $50 to transfer ownership of the transponder. If you do this all history will go to the new owner's account. I was told they are hoping to upgrade this in the future so that the old data would stay with the original owner.
Here's a link to the AMB home page. It has a link for the upgrade process.

Hope this helps - Jay

From wannabe to has been in a few short years..... the older I get, the faster I was
All I did was register my transponder...didn't pay a fee to anyone btw
Option 3 is new, probably a reponse to angry customers like me, not as good as free like it used to be but a lot better than spending hundreds on a trade-in just to transfer names and get MyLaps access. Nice to see they listened to their customers and took some action.
which means you registered it for the first time, the policy affects people that own previously registered transponders

Yes. The person I spoke to seemed genuinely interested in the opinions of users of their product. When I asked his permission to post what I'd been told he asked for a link to the thread so he could observe any responses.
$50 isn't so bad when you consider that Conforti won't allow you to transfer your Shark injector to your new car (maybe even new ECU). Something else to consider is that part of the price of each transponder goes to maintaining the database where all data is stored. Some of the transfer fee goes to that as well.
Either way..... some of the manufacturers are listening and we have a voice.

I can't find a second hand one to buy, and we don't use mylaps here, so that part doesn't matter

I was just made aware that the exchange with discount option was only available thru the end of '08. I edited my original post to delete it.
