not the easiest size to find for me so far but anyone have any reccomendations for this tire size for the stock rims.... dont need like track racing tires but good quality daily tires that are good for a little fun would be cool.

You've got the style 5 basket weave wheels right? That sizing isn't cheap or common anymore, I ended up with one of the only sets in my city at the time and it cost about $900. Yokohama are what I've got on it and I love them. You could also consider Hankook, I believe BMW is partnered with them now and they come on their new cars, so they must be decent enough.
yeah that size and style found a few but yeah not the cheapest thing..... may need to consider new wheels down the line.

That was the same boat as me but I paid for new ones anyway since I didn't know till I got quoted on the spot and needed new tires badly.
The style 5s are really comfortable to drive on though. I get a surprising amount of compliments from passengers on how smooth the ride is compared to other cars and there's definitely no compromise being able to still do great cornering. They're well worth the money if you can afford to get them.
225/60 R15 : Falken, NEXEN, Vredestein, Nankang, Federal, Kumho, Continental PremiumContact 2, Toyo ProxesCF2, Avon CR6 ZZ, I have Minerva EMI Zero since 2 years, got them online in Japan for $40/tire plus shipping, before I had for some years Nexen with Speedindex V: up to 240 km/h

This is about the cheapest I was able to find of a brand I'd heard of.

Tire rack seems to have some decent deals on that size.

225/60-15 tires used to be SUPER cheap only a couple years ago, but now it seems all the major tire manufacturers have discontinued that size. Although I think you can still get Kumho's for ~$70 a tire in that size. The best thing to do if you want stock ride comfort is switch from the 15X7 basketweaves to a 16X8" wheel and get 225/55-16 tires. The Hankook ventus s1 noble2 are $80 to $90 a tire and they are a very good all-season. And on an 8" wide wheel the cornering turn-in response is so much better compared to the "balloon" tires on the 7" wide basketweaves.
225/60 getting hard to find, but 205/65 and 215/65 will work and are relatively plentiful. The latter will correct your speedometer as well.
I think Cooper still makes this size. I'll vouch for CS4s if you can find 'em, good all around tire for comfort, grip pretty well if you push them and will certainly out wear Contis.
Having inherited several sets of various Kumhos and Hankooks I'd not choose them if buying new.

Good thing I saw this post. Vredestein Sportrac 5 are available in 225/60-15. I bought mine in 2014. They are Summer Tires - what these cars used to come with. Pirelli P600s pre 1993 on the E34. They are a tad pricey, but not crazy. The tread pattern is similar to a Michelin Pilot (Extreme Summer Tire). Not advisable to use in winter weather naturally. Very good test results in European reviews, particularly in the wet. I bought mine from Tires by Web.... also where I buy my Winter/Snow tires - Nokian R2. Vredestein's are now popular on high-end vintage cars like Ferrari's, Jags, Aston Martins etc. Often see them at car shows. https://www.tiresbyweb.com/p-12283-v...c-5-tires.aspx - The 225/60-15 size gives a very fat-looking stance and sidewall. Reminiscent of the `77-`89 Aston Martin Vantage. This tire size was standard for the 530i, 535i, 540i, 525/530 Tourings, 735i/iL, 740i/iL and 750iL. A rare size for sure now sadly. Most other offerings of this size are touring all-seasons - typically not performance based unlike the Vredestein. Here's mine......
Just revisit the old topic.
Yes, it is hard to find tires 225/60R15 now.
So, have anyone tried 225/70R15? 225/70R15 is bigger, difference of outside diameter is around 6%.
Good thread. My car above. Still wearing these Vredestein Sportrac Summer tires in 225/60-15 after more than 7 yrs. Approaching 4/32".... sadly they no longer make them. Maybe next Spring or Summer I'll buy the only other decent tire in this size.... General Alitmax - which has very good ratings and is a performance all-season... certainly better than the grip of a TRX. With our lousy choppy northeast roads, I like more rubber for safety and better ride, and love keeping the, "hi, it's still 1993... isn't it?" look.

so what's the best tire size option from your own experience to keep 15" original wheels and same/similar riding style as 225/60/15? More tires are still available in these sizes
205/65/15
215/65/15
other options?

After looking around I have decided to use 205/65R15. There are very few options at this time.
I have 205/65 Nokian R3 (Winter Tires) on my car now (for Winter only). And this size (stock for a 525i sedan), feels lighter, accelerates better, a little more tosable, and less steering effort is needed compared to the 225/60. The 225/60 does ride a little better (minimal). The look of a 225/60-15 is more 535/540-like.
205/65/15
i have mounted Michelin X Ice 3 and use these in New England Winters.. its a decent ride quiet on dry with very good bite and grip in snows but though I should get good use for the rest of Winter from these they are appearing unavailable from Tire Rack the largest retailer of Tires. Wondering if the limits are due to age of the specifications or the global supply/demand and personnel adjustments
I had horrible trouble with the Michelin Power Sport PS4S in 235/45/17 last Summer after one picked up a nail at the edge they replaced it with the last one available in the US in that size. Then the shop over filled them so one wore excessively and I had to shop for a used of the same model and this was in the middle of Summer zero new stock
