Ah yes! The surrealist "Moon on the Chessboard"
I can't tell you how many variations of that I did in 9th grade art class!
Another favorite was a "Rearing Pegasus" a-la Book of Dreams album cover
And "Enraged Dragon"
Maybe I'll revive one of those on the hood of Wifey's Dodge Caravan?

Wow! I love it! Another find, not listed yet on the Baur Registry!! Thank you for posting! Any other info on the car.... any pics? It looks great! The 318i Baur is one of the most rare of the Baurs, if I am not mistaken (318 autos, actually, I think). But I defer to Jeroen.
I see you are located in north Jersey. I am located very close to Interstate 95 in SE CT, the main route for you to Martha's Vineyard. If you come this way again, please shoot me a PM. I'd love to pair mine with yours, side by side by side, for photos, on your way by, and offer a beverage of your choice, my treat. We have a wonderful Irish pub in town, as well as a Dunkin Donuts and a Starbucks, if you prefer. A pic of two Baurs together in the US would be a rare thing indeed. Thank you again for your post.

seeing all this is making me miss my Baur which is tucked away at a friends house for winter. Next month i'm going to have it towed to my new house and placed in it's own garage. no more sitting in my friends yard under car covers yea!
only 4-5 months of winter to go, I hope we have a good summer.
I saw another baur at Bimmerfest last year so out of 3500+ BMWs in one spot there were 2 tc1s and one tc2. pretty rare cars indeed.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the nice words. A little background on my car. It was inported to the US in 1989. I bought it out of Wisconsin 6 years ago. Very solid and bone stock. It had sat in a car port of 3 years and did not run. The PO told me he parked it when the fuel pump died. I cleaned and sealed the gas tank tested the pump and it was working but the car had no spark. I switched out the distributor from a 320is parts car and it started. After sorting all the other fluids and putting in new injectors the car runs perfectly. It was resprayed in the original Kashmir Metallic 5 years ago.
I switched out the brown interior with the black vinyl interior and recarros from the 320is parts car.
I also rebuilt the brakes and suspension.
I love this car becuase it's so bullit proof. I never worry about taking it on long trips.
Incredibly I have very few pictures of it. But I found one of it parked next to my brother's 65 Corvette at Bear Mountain State Park.
My parking spot on the ferry was pure luck. I was inspired to take the pic with my cell phone.
Cheers!
Welcome to the Forum! And please consider that a standing offer, should you find yourself traversing I-95 in either direction. A quick beverage, and a photo op of two Baurs.
My Baur is currently in my garage undergoing a timing belt replacement and finishing up the new roof. ... unfortunately delayed by a family medical issue, but I hope to get back to it in the next week or so, and then it will be back on the road as my DD.

I agree, I drove my baur 8000 miles in three weeks across the worst roads in America and Canada and only had to stop twice for car issues, once to jiggle the fuel pump relay back in the socket after hitting a frost heave followed by a pothole at 60 mph about 100 miles past the middle of nowhere, and on the way back I hit a double frost heave in Canada 100 miles from the middle of nowhere and bounced the right muffler off the mounts and had to get out one of my spare rubber exhaust mounts and rehang the muffler....
I think that is pretty good for a 29 year old car on the worst roads I could find to drive on....
welcome to the forum, it's good to see another baur owner.

My son currently owns picture number 73860. We are doing a complete resto on it. Unfortunatly, when we pulled the motor out to clean up the bay, someone had installed a325es motor. So we are changing it to a 325 is motor.
Love the baurs!
the 325 es motor is the motor to have. it's a 2.7L vs the 2.5L All you need to do is use the 323i head on the 2.7 block and you've got about 160 hp and loads of torque.
I'm running a 2.7 (325es) motor in my baur with a big cam (some say maybe 290 or 302 by the feel of it) and am making 140 hp with a 160 tq at the wheels.
Joe is going crazy with his 2.7 and turning it into a 2.9 you can search for that info it's all over the e-21 section.

Ok, so it appears that, out of the 31+ Baurs listed as US, we have the following Baurs on this forum so far, (apologies to anyone I inadvertently left out... please correct me):
Alaskabimmer Alaska
Eighteenwheelerbob Long Island NY
Harry PR Puerto Rico/SC (was it?)
JMinNJ NJ
msbehmane36 PA
jimjims friend Not sure
tomscat1 CT
BruceH ?? (correct?) GA?
I am not sure if Bruce and jimjim's friend's Baur are on the list, btw. And the guy that was selling one in California (Lakewood?) posted here recently also. I wonder how many we can account for in here..... I am sure I left some out. For example, I bought my car from the guy who also owns the Dietel Baur in VA, but he doesn't post here, as far as I know.
Feel free to add to the list. Can we account for every Baur in the US, or at least those that Jeroen has identified as US cars? That would be something! The eight above, plus the Lakewood and the Dietel make 10... that's almost one third of them!

I think Jimjims friend bought the one that was for sale in Tucson, correct? There was a white one for sale in Beaufort SC not long ago, and Toyotech sighted a silver one in Tempe, Arizona.

UPDATE 5/20/2011 I had too many pics in the previous post, so I could not insert this pic in its proper place. But here it is!
73527 E21Baur's beautiful example at Bimmerfest May 2011
Addendum: bmac320i saw a white one that had been rear-ended in the Sacramento area this month.
Addendum II: Updated to include BruceH (2175) Atlanta GA. That makes 14 ID'ed.
Of the original 31 that Jeroen posted.... it appears that we have added a couple that were not included in that number, and there have been several others sighted, but not positively identified, which may or may not be included in the 31. So it is possible that we are approaching about 40 Baurs, more or less, so far. Of those 30-40 cars, it appears that we have some sort of positive ID/owner/location on 14 of them. That is not a bad start! Stay tuned!

There are two currently in Atlanta, BruceH's (72175) and its twin, this one:
Can't remember the owner's name (standing next to the car), but he is a great enthusiast and a very nice guy. We talked for quite a bit when I met him and saw the car at Road Atlanta last year during O'fest.
Curiously, the third Atlanta Baur, mine (which is currently in Deltona, FL but will be back in Atlanta in a couple of months), was also originally Kastanienrot. I would love to bring it back to that color. Then there would be triplets in ATL!

So,... I am NOT crazy!! At least not on that score. That is the story I recall from .... I don't remember when. Your car in its original color would make triplets in Atlanta.... amazing.
Any idea if that other Baur is listed in Jeroen's Registry and the photo listings above? Looks beautiful! Is the owner on here?
Update: I found this thread: Here's my "new" E21 Baur 320/6
.... from June 2008, in which BruceH makes reference to a Will Bryant, as the owner of another Atlanta Baur. Would that be the guy in your pics?

Well, I guess I should chime in here too.
I own 1.5 Baur TC1's.
First is a '79 320i US model, IberischRot. This car was at Vintage at the Vineyards a couple of years ago, and we even drove + showed it at the Carlisle (PA) Import show + swap meet for several years back in the late 90's-early 2000's. The car has not been driven for probably 2 years, and I've come to the realization that as much as I like the car- it needs a new home. It's taking up space in my garage.
I found the car locally here in NC, advertised on the local AM radio swap and sell show (!!). I paid too much for it, but I had never before seen a Baur for sale anywhere nearby. I swapped in a 5 speed transmission from a wrecked late-model 320i as well as the recaro front sport seats. There was a big hole in the floor on the driver's side (rust) that I patched with fiberglass. The body looks like it's been spot-painted a couple of times- some of the panels are not exactly the same color as the adjoining panels.
I don't know the exact history on the car, but under the hood is a metal ID plate that says "American Sunroof Corporation" with ID number "0001" on it. I know American Sunroof (ASC) did lots of low-volume convertibles for various cars, as well as some of the early 80's Mustang convertibles, when Ford wasn't mass-producing them. I think they even did a convertible E24 6er (??).
Anyway, I'll post up pics + VIN, etc when I get a chance.
I also have a late (80-83) E21 323i Baur that I bought at a salvage auction in Northern Va a couple of years ago. It was in a BAD wreck, basically looks like it was wrapped around a telephone pole or tree which hit right at the driver's side just in front of the seat. The floor collapsed and the car bent into a "C" shape around the pole.
The rescuers evidently didn't realize the car had a fold down top, so they used the jaws of life to cut the top frame in a couple of places, as well as the main "hoop" of the body.
I pulled a few small trim bits off of the car and used on my '79, but it's mostly as I bought it- kind of sad actually.
I'll get some pics + details of that one too.
I know there was a 320/6 TC1 parked at a shop nearby for a long time, with FL plates on it. It looked very unloved, not sure if it's still there, but if it is I'll get details on that one too.......
Bret.
