Bret,
I took the liberty of sending your two pics of the '79 ASC car to the fella at ASC, to help him understand what I was talking about, and to use as a reference when he speaks to the retired ASC Chief of Design.
As you can see from the info on the various links, ASC did a lot of sunroofs and convertibles, but not a lot of BMWs that I could see. I wanted to give him a visual aid to jog his memory. I hope you don't mind.
Jeroen,
Thanks for the compliment, and thanks again for the great info. We continue to be in your debt.

I believe this is Baur #1475, purchased earlier this year by eighteenwheelerbob from the DC/Baltimore area. He did a lot of work to it, I think, and then had it on Ebay as a Classified Ad last month for $4500 (he started much higher--- $8500!! --- the week before). He was having the engine rebuilt... and had a different 4 cylinder engine installed. I wonder if he got the original back in it before he apparently sold it.
Looks like it now has a new owner in the Bronx, who also wants to sell it: Buy It Now = $7000. 4 cylinder automatic. Bidding is at $200.00.... it's a long way to $7K. Stay tuned.

I found that pic of #70917. It is owned by Matt, (mstecker) who is on this list in the PA area, although he has only posted twice. He also owns that gorgeous cranberry Baur that was owned by Yellowdog9 in Wakefield MA. I can't locate a pic of the cranberry one.... is it on the Baur Registry? It was in this thread last May 2010: FS: 1981 323i Baur .

Here is an old thread from 2008. It includes pics of this 1981 323i Baur for sale by "dalimizer" in Houston Tx, and a reference to another Baur in Shreveport LA owned by "cdzurik83".
Jeroen, are these cars on the Baur Registry? Sorry I don't have any more info, but I am thinking that, since they were on this forum previously, that you may already know of them.

Ok, here is another one from a thread "Value of a 323i Baur" posted by Ruffian in 2006.... car was in CA at the time.
Value of 323i Baur?
I'm hoping you guys can chime in on the value(what you would pay) of a euro 323i baur e21. High mileage ~190k. I haven't run the vin yet for weirdness. Pics look okay. Top seems to be in good shape. The car will be for my daughter mostly. Am I wrong in thinking that the baur top has more safety with the sides in place versus a convertible that I won't buy her because of safety reasons? Thanks in advance.

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=567350 Here is a thread from 2006 for a 1982 323i Baur. The poster (80'323is) posted five times. Don't know if he bought it and had it shipped from NJ to CA, which was apparently his plan. Jeff (Alaskabimmer), you are in this thread (as well as some of the others above). Any idea what ever happened?

I don't remember what I ate for breakfast...it looks like I killed the thread. I don't think we ever heard from him again. you could always try and e-mail him and see if he still uses the same e-mail. I barely had purchaced my baur back in 2006...
The Frozen Baur (AKA The Frozen Ground) now on Netflix (John Cussack is driving the Omega behind the Baur)
I may try emailing a few of these if it appears that Jeroen has no info on them, and if I get some time this weekend. This could be as many as 5 more E21 Baurs, and while I have kinda lost track here, ... and if these are previously undiscovered vehicles.... then starting with Jeroen's original post of 31 Baurs in the US, and adding in the bunch that have turned up since (some of which may already be listed, we just don't know for sure yet) it appears that we may have found about 70-72 Baurs in the US.
Again, some of these may be already listed, but we just haven't been able to get enough data to confirm or deny that... so this number is really just a gross estimate. But it does appear that there are many more than the original 31.

Indeed, and it makes me wonder why BMW never sold the Baurs in the US. Seems like there was a market for these cars.
Gr Jeroen
Well, it wouldn't have been the first time or the last time they misinterpreted the US market. They failed to bring the '02 touring and the 6 cyl E21's, among other Euro-only cool models, and now they want the US market to buy the ugly 5 Series GT instead of the very nice-looking wagon.

Here's the cranberry one I referred to above. Here is a thread. Gorgeous. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1050917
Ok, one down. We assume that one is listed on the Baur Registry.
Update: It is indeed on the Baur Registry, and is also included in Jeroen's list of 31 US Baurs. So that changes the estimate from 70-72 down to 69-71. And counting.
Update: dalimizer (above) PM'd me that he sold his 1981 323i Baur to dhlthr in Texas and this is it, included in the original 31: #73475 323i dhlthr Austin Texas. That's two down.... and the revised guesstimate: 68-70.
Ruffian's Baur turns out to be an E30 TC2, but he said there is an E21 Baur in his town in Lake County, California, and he will get some info on it. Thanks, Keith!
I would love to get some sort of an online pushpin map to enter the locations of all the Baurs we have found in the USA. I can't find anything that does the job. Anyone have any suggestions? A visual representation of the location of all the known USA Baurs.... wouldn't that be great? .... well, for the Baur aficionados anyway.

Great, thanks Harry. I actually found this Google Maps site a little while ago and I have been making an attempt to put it together. I haven't gotten to the part on learning how to share it yet though. I am making it a public map, so hopefully I can share it soon. It is a little tedious putting it together, but it should be great when it's done.
Sometime in the next millennium, or so.
Hmmm. OK, if I did it correctly (no guarantees) this should be a link to a map called "BMW Baur TC1s in the US".
*crosses fingers....http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...0262f15966&z=3
Looks like it worked! It is not intended to be complete.... just a compilation of what we have found on this thread so far.... if I remembered everything. My apologies to anyone I left out... just let me know and I will include you. And I just remembered that I left out the Baur that was sold down in Mathews VA last year. Day um.
I have also included reports of Baur sightings, rumors of Baurs, and possibly some hallucinated Baurs, I can't be sure. I have included them here thinking that perhaps some interested party may pursue those leads, or just be on the alert for them.
If nothing else, it has given me a fresh perspective and a renewed appreciation for Jeff (alaskabimmer)'s Odyssey from Alaska to Bimmerfest in Pasadena in his Baur. Wow.
Looks like we have placemarks for 33 cars, including a number of phantom sightings. Jeroen posted 31 Baurs originally, and added two more for a total of 33. It appears that we have identified about 16 of his original list..... so about 17 others are still missing. Not to mention that the current guesstimate is around 65-70 Baurs out there.... probably more.... waiting to be discovered. There is still a long way to go, but at least we have a start.

Thanks, Harry. That is a really interesting scatter pattern of locations: most found along or not far from the coastal areas of the US, with a few exceptions. None reported so far in the vast Midwest expanses, or even in the Pacific Northwest, where there are a number of E21s. Then we have Jeff (alaskabimmer) way the hell up there in Alaska!
I do plan to add info to each of those locations as I receive it... and as time allows. So if anyone has any info, corrections, additions, new sightings, etc.... please send it to me and I will include it.

Hey Guys. I'm new here but do recognize a few names from other venues.
I've an '81 323 Baur almost done with a frame up. While not done yet, here's a glimpse of what an e21 Baur looks like.
Mayan, when are we going to see yours????? "
Which then led to this, from 3/28/10:

"Hey guys I am looking for an engine for my 1981 320i baur bmw. Please help me. "
Could that be one of the US Spec cars on Jeroen's list of 25?
Wow, that appears to be three more to add to the list. Thanks again, Jeff!
Bill in MN's car (above) looks a lot like #72910 in Jeroen's original list.... look at those wheels. Anyway to confirm that?

I forgot about Mayan Arch, he lived in Miami and was doing a restoration.
We do have a LOT of old cars in the PNW, and quite a number of E21's, but I have to say the market for convertibles has probably never been anything but lukewarm in this area for obvious reasons. Regardless I'm fascinated by this thread and I love the enthusiasm of Team Baur. I'll be sure to watch for them from here on out. Cheers guys.
I'd forgotten about Mayan and his restoration a few years ago. Wonder if he ever got it done?

Hi Bill,
Welcome to the thread!
We have just added your car to the google map, thanks to Jeff (alaskabimmer).

Is your car Baur #72910 .... see Jeroen's original post in this thread #1.
The first pic is conkitchen's donor car. the second is a pic just sent to me by the guy who sold it in Denver CO a couple of years ago. I am waiting to get the vin#, but it doesn't look like a match.
Ok, sorry. I couldn't get conkitchen's pic to post so here is his post which included a thumbnail of his white donor car. His post is #5 in this thread on page 1.
I did a little Googling and came up with a few more Baurs from sites like tricord, bimmerfest, etc. I also found and posted some additional info on previously listed cars (Will Bryant's car, e.g.). Some of the info is a few years old, so things may have changed (locations, owners, etc.). As more info becomes available with your help, we may be able to match more of these cars up with Jeroen's original picture list of US Baurs, as well as his list of 25 US Spec cars.
Mike323i in New Jersey (and this forum) has been added to the map. 1980 323i Baur 3037, vin 7243900.
Thanks, Mike!
Mike's car is listed in Jeroen's original picture list of US Baurs. #3037. Mike323i has also confirmed that the post on tricord site from MikLem1 for a 1980 323i Baur is his post from years ago. I have combined the placecards and deleted the the duplication. Thanks again, Mike.
