Since the “M5” badge was first placed on the deck lid of a BMW back in 1988, this iconic model has exemplified super-car performance combined with the luxury and daily usability of a top range BMW sedan. Now, in its 5th generation, the all-new BMW M5 is again poised to redefine the performance envelope available in a luxury sedan.

The new BMW M5 is a high-performance sports car whose exceptional dynamic potential is geared squarely on the demands of track use while – at the same time - sets a new benchmark in everyday driving with its supreme touring comfort and innovative equipment features. It also sets the pace in its class in terms of efficiency.

In order to achieve these lofty performance goals, the new BMW M5 introduces the most powerful engine ever fitted in a series-produced model from BMW M GmbH mated to a new high-torque 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT). An innovative Active M Differential which optimizes power transfer to the rear wheels combined with extensive chassis upgrades developed on the history of extensive racing expertise ensure that the engines performance can be transferred to the ground.

The new BMW M5 will arrive in the US market in the Spring of 2012.

More at http://www.M-Power.com . This is the fifth generation of the BMW M5. It comes with a world premiere: a newly developed high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo package. It's a perfect combination of a sports car and a business car. BMW also significantly improved the balance between performance and fuel consumption. But let's stop talking and watch this exceptional BMW M car...

Looks a hell of a lot better than the E60 M5, and that iteration was as good as the E60 platform got, looks-wise.

Kind want more front and rear 3/4 shots.

    Still no manual option, eh?

    No more BMWs :(
I don't know. As an (E39) M5 owner, I have to give this one a big "meh" vote. The wheels are awful, the interior generic, the brakes gaudy...frankly I think BMW M has been a roll lately...downhill.

Agreed comparing a e39 m5 to any other generation m5 is like comparing a e30 m3 to a e36 m3, they were in a league of their own and everything else is just competing for second place, but I will say im glad "M" is atleast continuing to make "performance" cars instead of switching gears to hybrids, cus that will be the day all hope is lost

6 spd manual trans will be an option for north america, like it was for the E60 M5.

It looks like the vents are from a Ford Tarus. I like the looks overall, I htink the brakes fit the car well.

I am loving BMW and M's new direction with design. I didn't quite get it with the new 7 series, but now that they've released the new 5, M5, and 6, it all makes sense. Looks excellent.

No kidding. Love that they're actually showing us some of the mechanicals and piping, instead of covering it all with a huge swath of plastic. That's very good.

    Turbos in the V, right?

I agree. I think for me ever since the e39 and e46 went out of production and the new cars came along, I have lost most if not all interest in anything new that bmw comes up with.. If I need a family car in the future it willl be a used e34M5 or e39 M5.

I think the new 5 series is barge. I think the M5 looks good, but it is way to long. If I just caught a glance of it I swear I would have seen a 7 series. E60 was a stretch but I eventually came around to it, but I think the greatness stops at the E39. I will purchase a new BMW when they start scaling back, until then my eyes are on Alfa Romeo.

I believe 190 is to be it's natural top speed, but it will be pegged back to 155 like all others. Not as much as the e60, but really, how often do you need to go over 190 mph anyway? lol

As for the car, I love everything about it: looks wise it is much nicer than the e60 (though that grew on me over the years), and I'm sure it's going to be beastly with the extra power.

Oh and tuners are going to have a field day with the turbo motor ... can you say 600+hp with just a tune?

Sorry but I believe your wrong about the top speed of 190. A video was released of the M5 cruising at that speed and it was no where near redline yet. The E60 M5 could break the 200mph marker

Who cares ... anyone can slap a big engine in a car and make it go fast, but only BMW knows how to make it do that and so much more.

The 6 series grew on me fast and the e92 is the cleanest 3 series yet imo. But I agree the e39 is timeless even though this new m5 isn't all that bad.
