    1998 Z3 2.8L value?

Hi folks, new member here. My family owns a 98 Z3 2.8L 5 speed with 8500 miles on it and were thinking of selling. I was looking on Nada and Kelly blue book but I'm a little confused on there values. They range from 8-16K

This car is all original, light blue with tan top and tan leather interior. It's been serviced yearly at the dealer and is in excellent condition.

What would be a fair value range for this car?

    8500 miles? Wow...
Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

82470, no? If not then I'd say 16 k sounds pretty accurate.

it would hard to find someone who's willing to pay that kind of cash for that car.

Yotone is hitting the nail on the head. It is probably worth $14-16k but it will take you a long time (if ever) to find a buyer for a 2.8L that costs more than most 3.2L M roadsters. In an effort to sell it in a timely manner I would consider a small premium over what KBB states.

I sold a 97 2.8 with 75K on the clock for $7500 and that was a deal for the buyer. I wouldn't sell it for less than 10K

PM me some pictures. I might be interested in the car. Do you also have the original window sticker - this is just to see what options were on the car from the factory. There are other ways to get the list of options as well, i.e. through the VIN etc. Thx.

There is a buyer out there who is interested in low mileage, wants a Z3, and doesn't care that he could get an M for the same money. When I sold my 2.8 Z3, one guy who was very interested bought a different Z with an automatic (4 cyl I think). I was amazed; didn't even compare in my opinion. But he didn't care about power. All he wanted to do was put his girlfriend in a little convertible. Point is: there is a buyer out there if you're willing to wait.

makes sense to me, obviously the family's not making money on the car and theres no hurry to sell it. Just trying to come up with a fair ballpark # on price.

ha, thats the million dollar question. Not really, Certainly we want to get as much as possible but also make a fair deal for both buyer and seller. Honestly from what I've seen as far as sale prices go, there all over the place so I'm not sure how much it will bring.

The car needs a set of tires (original) before any substantial miles are put on it so there's got to be a discount figured in for that also.

I paid $11,000 for my '98 2.8L Z3 5 years ago. It had 10,000 miles on it. Best decision I ever made. It felt like driving a new Z3 for a fraction of the cost of a new BMW.
I put a few thousand$ into it redoing the entire cooling system, installing the Randy Forbes reinforcement, and upgrading the stereo system. If everything is in mint shape, you can easily get $14K for the car. The buyer would still be getting a great deal on nearly new Z3. Not too many of them out there with that low of mileage.

Nice car. Beautiful. With less than 10K on the odometer and a 2.8 engine, asking price over $16K. The market will decide the price. Be patient and find the price that's right for you. Spring is better than fall. Less than 10K on the odometer is better than 10K+. Some low time gems with 1.9 are listed for $20K+. Not realistic. But your car is a 2.8. Worth the time and effort to sell at the right price.

FWIW, I would absolutely consider paying above "normal" for this car... the atlanta blue, beige top is the Bond Car color combo, the 2.8 is a great motor... this looks like a great car. you've got the soft top cover too, looks in good shape. finding those in good shape now is hard too.

Whatever you do, just don't sell it to someone who wouldn't value it, and treat it well... Good luck!
    Cheers,
    Phil

If you're a BMWCCA member, list it in Roundel. A lot of BMW aficionados read that.
