Have you gone for traditional steel sleeves?
Yea the M54 comes with steel sleeves from the get-go. As far as we are aware they can take quite a beating
M54 sleeves are coated, what I meant was are you going with un-coated sleeves?
There is no coating on the European M54 sleeves apparently, they are 1.5mm thick and we bored the cylinders to 84.5mm.
Allright so we've got some work done this weekend.
We got things started by working on the splitter, and we figured that we wanted it to be quite easily removable if needed so we grabbed two square pipes that measured 2x2cm internally and externally respectively, which means one fits snuggly within the other.
The larger pipe was cut into two pieces that welded onto the front subframe.
Then we made a frame from the smaller pipe and mounted it into the wooden piece that we later cut into shape.
This design allows us to slide it underneath the car from the front without issue.
Marked up some lines with some maskingtape.
We cut it to shape and added some mounting points further forwards that slides into fastening points underneath the intercooler. We also added a small tubular frame that we'll use as an attachment point for the next step.
Stapled some fleece textile onto the splitter and around the metal frame, this gives us a pretty smooth shape to work from.
Added some glassfibre onto the textile,
Also got the aerocatch hoodlocks in place
Then some basic putty was applied and sanded for smoothness, this was a basic process and will be improved once it's at the paint shop.
The car has been heightened for ease of transportation, but we still got some shots with the splitter mounted of course
We also got the rest of the engine put together and adjusted the cams.
Ready for the paintshop, in which it will be for about two weeks.
This means we probably won't have much content until we get the car back the paintshop
Very creative. Nice work. Installing some vortex blades? Rear difuser? I like the maseratti hiding there!!
Beautiful work!!!
Thank you
We're probably going to skip vortex blades entirely. Might go for some front canards if we discover that more downforce in the front is needed on the track though.
I don't think we'll go for a diffuser since it probably wouldn't do much without adding a plane floor in front of it that would need to stretch to the front subframe, and that might add a plethora of cooling issues for the drivetrain components.
But who knows, it all depends on how the car behaves I guess.
Also, that Maserati is a Street legal Turboed S50 E30

It will be the same Brittish Racing Green as the Compact.
How is the green machine coming along?
Stunning machine.
Didnt you build a awd e36 compact once?
Do you have maybe pictures of the coilovers fitted on the rear? I am highly interested in seeing how they look

This thread is so awesome. I love the levels of customization in the Weedspeed builds!

been following this build over on e46 fanatics. Love it! keep it up.
This is my Signature.
Pretty cool build
The coils are separate from the springs in the rear so it works the same way as stock. They are avaliable in a true coilover setup, and we actually ordered those to begin with but they sent us the wrong type and then the shipping time for them was too long so we kept the ones we got.
The proper full coilover would be better yes, but hopefully our setup will work out decently. Time will tell
Allrighty so here comes a fun update
While the car was over at the paintshop we didn't have much to do, but we managed to get something done at least.
We figured that the stock mountingpoint for the gearbox was sort of...wobbly, so we had a friend help us make a new one.
Old one.
Removed entirely.
New mountingpoint with a beefier bushing.
We also sold our homemade car-trailer that we initially built for our old Opel Ascona A racecar, but since the 330 differs in dimensions it wouldn't fit properly so it had to go.
To replace it we bought ourselves an old VW LT35 in decent shape
Later on we recieved a sneakpeak from the paintshop.
And another one a couple of days later.
With itchy fingers it didn't take us long, 1 day after we got the car back from the paint shop to be precise, to have the driveline put back in place
This year we will use the tablet to monitor our oilpreassure instead of using an old fashioned mechanical one, since warnings can be programmed into the tablet via MaxxECU.
Rear fenders from Hard Motorsport painted, mounted and safely secured with popnuts. We also added an external black rubber seal along the fenders to remove any gaps between it and the rest of the body.
Obligatory wing shot
Then we put the rest of the fenders into place using the same technique and added the front splitter. Since we made it rather thin we were worred it might not hold up to the beating it'll recieve this summer so we had the paint shop add some layers of...some kind of underbody spray. The result isn't as pretty as can be but function over form right?
Also testing a new watermark for the pictures. Wasn't really pleased with the old one and this one may very well change aswell later on :P
With the car entirely painted the Déjà-vu of the Compact is haunting us every now and then with it's memory, but one must look forwards rather than backwards
That's all for now folks
The car looks great!
When you drive it. Have a scout car go ahead of you with a massive freaking train horn. Also get a coupe high frequency electric deer whistles mounted permanently in the car.
