Just saw the car on it's way to MidO. Kevin walked me through some of the underhood work.
This car is sick! I need to get another E30.

Good lord this is a sweet build. Your car's exhaust note is otherworldly, especially considering it's an M52.

Really? Which estimate? Just FYI, the timing that is conservative is in and around the torque peak area not on top. So, I am only losing a little area under the curve where honestly makes it just a little easier to drive.
Oh and yeah I had to tell my ECU where TDC was so my timing map numbers were in fact what my timing is.
Great meeting you Jeremy! And I am glad you liked it!
Thanks! Yeah we love the exhaust note as well... kinda wish it revved higher

Whats your r3v limit now? Its pretty amazing what people are revving to these days. I KNOW i hit 8000-8200 on my STOCK NV valve train (and block :-X) at least TWICE...
Ive heard of people spinning stock m52's to at LEAST 7200 with out issues. Obviously not romping on the rev limiter but still, 7200 is impressive. I plan on finding out how long my m52 will last at that r3v limit... Well see what they dyno says, if she keeps making power i might go a little higher
-Chris
My stock M50 single Vanos Valve springs let go at 7200! Be carefull in those upper RPMS ranges! This was a Stock Motor with only 68k on the Clock as well!

AND WE'RE BACK! And... In one piece! I'll let Anthony describe his thoughts and opinions. We have TONS of video from every angle... Stay tuned! Oh and on the power... the consensus of pretty much everyone at the track was WELL OVER 400hp FWIW.

Good to hear everything went well! Definitely excited to see her in action!

Excellent! I am excited to see the vids!
Ethon's estimate of 375-400. At 15psi on a 2.8L with a 35R you should be in that ballpark at least. I have a 8:1CR 3L stroked M50/52, and with 13* (realllly soft) of timing I made 382/402@15psi. I'm using an SC61 which shares the 35R's compressor map, its just non-DBB.I want to see the videos!
I am running more timing than that FWIW.
First video. The only one I have on my camera (which sux) Saturday, third session, damp and drizzling on the front straight of Mid O Crushing a GT3 cup car

Big thanks go out to Bimmertools.com for coming through for us! I know I felt a lot safer in the car! Don't think we could have done it without the help! Thanks again!

SOOOO BADASS!!! What were guys response after the runs?
I'd like Anthony to have a chance to chime in... But, the common theme from what I heard was basically something to the effect of "Damn that car is FAST!" was really cool to hear I have to say. (I was actually either too scared, or nervous or both to ride in the car for all six sessions )

sick car guys! I'd love to see it on the strip
Oh and don't put a big stupid spoiler on it. It would ruin the clean lines of the car which you perfected.

SO Sick!
If you're running more timing I almost promise you're over the 400 mark. My numbers were with flat timing from 4k up. By adding 4* at redline (advancing as rpms go up) thr car pulls far harder, shaving nearly a second off of the 69-121 time with no other changes. Would you mind sending me your timing map? I'm just curious as to what you're running.
NICE vid Kevin!
A couple quick comments... Then gotta get back to work.
I was not expecting to be able to drive this car as I wished this weekend. After such a lengthy build, I was fully expecting to have some sort of major issue that would either prevent us from running the whole weekend or having to drive around some issue. The fact was, that, after the ~5 lap damp warm up session, it was only a couple laps before I started driving this thing like it wasn't mine. Oh, wait.....
The car had enormous power and picked off cars at will. I can promise over 400 hp... The question is HOW much over?
The brakes had great power. Too much, in fact, and had 0 feel due to the stock master cylinder. We will be swapping it out for a bigger unit. We also need better tires to help haul us down. The tires were really the sore point of the car, since they just didn't have much grip. The tires we choose for One Lap will be much, much stickier (likely Dunlop Star Specs).
The car handled quite well in balance, and by the end of the weekend, I was able to roll into the power pretty hard from the apex (rather than waiting until I was almost straight). Peak power in 3rd gear would ONLY be tolerated under perfectly dry, warm conditions while going STRAIGHT. It was challenging to find the point that I could roll into full throttle and not hit peak power before track-out. It was one of those challenges that is really fun if it doesn't kill you
Overall, I am hugely impressed by the car. We identified several small issues to work on and have developed a strategy to improve the handling and be able to put more power down. I'm really hoping that we get a chance to test before the One Lap on the tires that we'll run in it. I'm sure neither of us want to be screwing with suspension settings through the event.
Comments from passengers who rode with me were rather short and simple. No one could really talk much. They were mostly in the form of "OMG this is absolutely rediculous". I personally haven't driven a car that has made me giggle this much. I've driven fun cars, but not one that has made me burst out into a 20 second long giggle. It instills Permagrin The rate at which we'd suck in and pass cars was rediculous. There was this poor E46 M3 (with mods) who was on R-Comps. He was quick in the turns, so I let him go so he could have his fun. As he was passing me (I was off throttle), I gunned it and jumped ahead, then fell back, then gunned it and jumped ahead again, just to play with him. He was flat to the floor the whole way, and I could just toy with him!
The powerband on the car is sweet. It builds power very progressively all the way to the redline. It flattens a touch after 6800 rpm, but I constanly pulled to 7k. I guess I'll have to post some video soon
Was it mean that I scared the car owner?

Sounds like a blast. And the Direzza Star Specs are a great tire. I recently put them on my e36, and they're very sticky, I highly suggest them.
Yeah Anthony you meany! Honestly though folks... Anthony "the Ringer" did an absolutely AMAZING job! No ASR, no Traction control, No ABS... Just balls! Brought the car home in one piece! All the while clicking off times maybe 4 seconds slower than the fastest race cars there on crappy z rated summer tires. AMAZING! Can't say enough about my boy!
And yeah! Edit and post up the videos!!!!
