If there was such thing as a predecessor to the M Coupe this would be it. I've always admired the "M Shoe" but at their value I can't imagine building a play/track car out of one! With that said, Group A & B rally cars have always impressed me so I said why not combine the style and performance of those 1980's monsters with the availability, light weight chassis, and mechanical ease of an e30?! I wanted something a little bit off the beaten path though, some say it looks like an Escort GT while others think BMW should have built it…either you love it or you hate it!
I've been designing the build for months and just picked up a '96 328i 5-speed for the organ donor. The goal is under 2,200lbs with 360whp/380lbs-ft. torque at low boost of 10psi with full spool between 2,500 & 2,800 RPM's, who knows what it will produce between 1.0 and 1.5 bar?!

Thats fucking tits. I have always wanted to see an e30 m3 hatch. I have seen p-chops of them in the past and I thought they looked great. Eventually someday I wanted to make one.
Definitely need to keep us posted.
The concept is awesome. Good luck.

3 words to you sir.
KEEP US POSTED
plz?!?
Thats HOT. It does remind me of an Escort a little bit. In a kind of a "wolf in sheep's clothing"-ish sorta way.
It's gonna be fast as hell, That's for sure. but as far as the whole hatch thing.........
e30 hatches are nice.
It seems very cool, but what functionally/practically is achieved by making it a hatchback? Honestly for all of the work involved, I feel like you'd be getting into M-Coupe territory, in terms of money.
Cool idea though, I'd love to see it happen.
Like others have said, it looks like a lot of work, but if you complete it, it will be sweet.
nice project man
have you ever heard of the 2 door e30 touring?
and i cant find it, but they made a 2 door touring e30 hatch back. 11 were made back in the 80's
I love it! I was thinking of doing something similar, but with the collectability of the m3, I think I decided to just buy a stock one, and use something else for a crazy weekend car.
Looks like you know your shit, and that this isn't just a pipe dream. I've only seen one M-touring, and it was apparently a piece of shit that only looked good in pics. Can't wait to see the final project!
I can't find the thread on the chap who picked up a beat up two-door coupe Touring in SA. But here's this thread anyways, scroll down.

here's my version of an e30m3 ti/hatchback....
Awesome concept! I've been thinking about attempting an e28 touring but haven't found any suitable rear hatch assemblies yet. Keep posting progress
+1 where the hell is the update?
This is my Signature.
Bmw should have built that!
