"2 Door Touring" M52 Turbo e30 Hatch Project

If there was such thing as a predecessor to the M Coupe this would be it. I've always admired the "M Shoe" but at their value I can't imagine building a play/track car out of one! With that said, Group A & B rally cars have always impressed me so I said why not combine the style and performance of those 1980's monsters with the availability, light weight chassis, and mechanical ease of an e30?! I wanted something a little bit off the beaten path though, some say it looks like an Escort GT while others think BMW should have built it…either you love it or you hate it!

I've been designing the build for months and just picked up a '96 328i 5-speed for the organ donor. The goal is under 2,200lbs with 360whp/380lbs-ft. torque at low boost of 10psi with full spool between 2,500 & 2,800 RPM's, who knows what it will produce between 1.0 and 1.5 bar?!

    Exterior:
Chassis: e30 325i/e - Nogaro silver modified into a hatch
Body: e30 M3 rear quarters, front fenders, rear bumper, sideskirts, & e30 M3 Evo front bumper.
    Wheels:
    Street:
    OEM Euro BMW Staggered 5's - BBS RC009/010 - 17x8F ET:10 & 17x9R ET:19
    Track:
    Team Dynamics Pro Racing 1.2 - 16x?
Windows: Speedglass [coated lexan] quarters and rear

    Interior:
    Roll cage: Custom 8+ point
    Tied into shock towers
    Gusseted to body
    Ladder bars or x-brace
Dash: OEM E30 with console wrapped in black suede
Guages: VDO Vision in carbon fiber panel
    Seats: Recaro black suede
    Harness: Schroth Clubman III

    Powertrain:
    Block - M52 2.8L
    Crank - OEM
    Camshaft - OEM or M3
    Piston - OEM
    Head - M52 2.8L
    Intake Manifold - OBD1 M50

E34 oil pan & pick up, etc. etc. The goal is 8.9:1 compression ratio with a 0.140 head gasket and ARP headstuds. AutoFab Motorsports custom turbo kit. Intercooler, piping, wastegate, bov, to be determined...

666 Fabrication top mount exhaust manifold
    Precision GT30R Ball Bearing Turbo
    550+cc Injectors

    Transmission: 328i

Thats fucking tits. I have always wanted to see an e30 m3 hatch. I have seen p-chops of them in the past and I thought they looked great. Eventually someday I wanted to make one.

Definitely need to keep us posted.

Holy hell, you better keep this going man!

When completed it will be my favorite E30 of all time.

Thats HOT. It does remind me of an Escort a little bit. In a kind of a "wolf in sheep's clothing"-ish sorta way.

It seems very cool, but what functionally/practically is achieved by making it a hatchback? Honestly for all of the work involved, I feel like you'd be getting into M-Coupe territory, in terms of money.

Cool idea though, I'd love to see it happen.

Like others have said, it looks like a lot of work, but if you complete it, it will be sweet.

I love it! I was thinking of doing something similar, but with the collectability of the m3, I think I decided to just buy a stock one, and use something else for a crazy weekend car.

Looks like you know your shit, and that this isn't just a pipe dream. I've only seen one M-touring, and it was apparently a piece of shit that only looked good in pics. Can't wait to see the final project!

Yep! It's called the two door Stoere Touring. In the "hottest e30" thread version 1 there is a great link to several photos.

Awesome concept! I've been thinking about attempting an e28 touring but haven't found any suitable rear hatch assemblies yet. Keep posting progress

    . . I'm not sure if a M-Coupe wouldn't be cheaper than your build

I like the Idea . . I've seen attempts to do this in Germany . . but they all failed because it's just so much bodywork . .
