Forum member mathews found this pic on a flickr site a few weeks back. Does it look familiar to anyone?
" Euro bumpers, single tailpipe, 320i badge, Federal rear side markers. Sad looking. Posted by "Rick C." California plates. Any clues?

The black background on the 320i badge says it's 1978 or earlier. Sad to see in that condition.
one spooky looking car.
And no way to look up the registered owner's info without either paying to do it online through a 3rd party or mailing in a form to the DMV.
...unless someone is a peace officer on here and has access to the databases to run this plate....

According the the comments on that photo seen HERE, he isn't sure what is going on with the car and "kingoftarmac" already tried to get the info out of him 39 months ago. This pic was taken in '07. Not looking good, but not totally a dead end yet.

Wow, that is a great find! How did I miss that?? This puts it in the small world category, since one of our members here (king of tarmac) was on top of this way back when!
Within yards of the Pacific in Fort Bragg, CA. I didn't know there was a Fort Bragg in California. I was wondering why Tom D made that comment above! This is progress, boys and girls! From the looks of it, I am guessing it hasn't moved---under it's own power anyway---- so it may be there still.
Tom D,.... Anyone up for a nice long walk along the beach---and adjacent properties--- in the Fort Bragg area? Great exercise, Pacific Ocean air.... sound good? And find a Baur. Sounds like a great day to me!!
Do they allow motorcycles on the beach in that part of California?
Btw, I have sent a message to RickC about this earlier tonight. Perhaps something will pan out here.... he knows where the property is, so that is a start. We may be able to find this one yet!

California Baurhunters!
I just got an email from the photographer of that forlorn Baur located somewhere near Fort Bragg, CA. Remember the sad-looking one... covered with debris of some sort?
Who is good with maps?
39 degrees 33'57.19"N 123 degrees 46' 03.33"W
That is the location where the pic was taken. It is unknown if the car is still there.
Can you plug that into a GPS and find it? I am GPS-challenged, so forgive me for asking.
We need an intrepid Baurhunter to go take a look, and a pic, if possible!! And make a few inquiries.
Any volunteers?
This one.
Can I say it? I am amazed that we may be able to nail this one. Great thanks to all who contributed, esp mathews, and RickC (photographer).

I used this site ... I am no expert at this by any means.... But you can move the map around and center on the desired coordinates.
When I did that, as best as I could, it gave those coordinates as being just east of Jackson State Forest, south of route 20. West of rte 101. That is generally east and a bit south of Fort Bragg, CA area. It looks like it may be almost due east of Mendocino.
Again, I am no expert at this, so take it with a grain of salt. Any geographers in the forum?

morning tom,
so i went to a satellite mapping site and have located the car. in fact i can tell you the car is facing southeast. i can see it in the bushes. it's right on highway 1 just north of fort bragg and it's right on the ocean!! i drove within 150 feet of it last summer.
this is a great motorcycle riding area, but i'll need a 3 day weekend. i'll try to get there in the next couple of months.

Unbelievable! Un-frickin-believable!!! Tom Terrific! So much for MY mapping skills. I tip my hat to you, Tom! amazing that you were within 150 feet of it.
Now this satellite mapping... Are those current pics, or pics taken in the recent past? How does that work?
Kudos to Tom D, Baurhunter of the Week!

the satellite photo i have is listed as 05/29/09.
tom, i just went out and looked at my truck's renewal stickers. the orange tag, from what i can tell, was issued in 2000, 2004 and 2008. so i'd say the car was parked in 2004, the picture taken in 2007 and the satellite confirming it's existence in 2009.

Wow, Tom. Thank you. I gotta hand it to you.... hth did you come up with these?
Do you suppose that car was vulnerable to the effects of that tsunami??? did they get hit with the high tides in that region? I saw where some photographer was lost somewhere along the coast... further north , though, I think.
