That is certainly a great venue and a great site. That would probably work for a lot of people and I would love to go sometime. But it is about 700 miles from me here in eastern CT... so not really all that practicable at this point.

If you look at the Baur locations map, you can see that there appear to be several cluster areas developing: the Northeast, the Southeast, and the Southwest including especially California. It may be possible to choose an accessible, regional venue for each cluster area, and try to get as many E21s and Baurs as possible to create a presence there. That's a start, and very doable, I think.
I know at the last local show I attended, I was not only the only Baur, I was the only E21 out of about 40-50 cars. My car caused a minor stir, and it is FAR from Concours condition. A car like yours, Bruce, or Will Bryants, may have taken Best in Show because of their rarity and beauty, over the regular M3s, M5s and '02s that usually dominate these shows.

I noticed that the photography was sponsored by Sports Car Restorations of CT. I love those guys, and what a great shop they have about an hour from me. I may give some thought to hooking up with them to make the trip to The Vintage. And that is not too far from Rigmaster and the ASC/Baur too. Hmmmm. We shall see.

Here is a post from boostede21 "Santa Barbara E21 fest 2011" that may be a great possibility for the West Coast along the lines suggested above:

"Not sure if I should start a new thread or bump this one, but here it is..bump.

Anyways, since CJ has been MIA, lets get this going once again and see about getting a Legion Gathering setup.

We know bimmerfest is on May 14th this year, we can shoot for this date to get the date the Legion gathering is, the next things to discuss is the location (SB?) and events.

    So lets hear it guys."

Let's get some Baurs out for this, fellas!

    Addendum:
    I found this just now:

    A Bauer (open) Edition 3-Series:

At first blush I was just gonna say this looks like Ed Ulloms Baur that we saw at the Bullenstall Museum. But it is NOT. No rear spoiler, different wheels, different front air dam (later style?), and it has those funny (Federalized?) front side markers like the car that may or may not be Christiane Baur's from Merrick NY. But it has the Euro bumpers.
And this pic was taken at Lime Rock Park CT. That is my back yard!!! Sunday in the Park Vintage Fall Festival on Labor Day weekend. I am trying to track down the year. I KNEW I shoulda gone to that show! Day um.

By the way, this is what you come up with when you do a DELIBERATE misspelling to troll the Web. It works,... right, Clio? Bauer instead of Baur.

Ok, so what is this car.... and it's got to be from the Northeast somewhere. Anybody go to the Lime Rock Vintage Fall Festival?

UPDATE: The post is from September 24, 2010. Shoot. My buddy invited me to go to that show, but I had a conflict... otherwise I would have seen this car. That will teach me. I shoulda had my priorities straight. Day um, day um, day um.

So just a little question Ulloms baur did not have the baur badge on the b pillar trim and mine does. Was this because of the year differacne?

This question came up earlier in this thread. According to Jeroen, the Baur insignias are easily removed. You may notice a slightly different paint coloration where the insignia used to be.... less paint fade, for example.

I came across another thread referencing a Baur (A1242)for sale on ebay from West Los Angeles last October, before we started this thread.
    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1536680

It is listed in the International Registry, but shows a country designation of "D" (I assume Germany) instead of "US". The ebay listing is long gone, of course. It looks like this car should be included in the Baur TC1 in US. Correct?

    Jeroen, what do you think?

Here is another one from this forum:
    "
Hi Guys. Sorry to hijack your thread, but I'm in urgent need of some expert Baur info. My name is Scott and I've recently found a Baur TC1 for sale in my area and need some questions answered before cash changes hands. The Baur number is A1330-11 and the body number is 04100618. This car has not been federalized. It has metric gauges and no VIN tag on the dash. It is rust free but in need of total restoration. There is no title, but I've been told that if the car has ever been titled, registered or insured in the U.S. that a clear title can be obtained. Can anyone (Jeroen?) tell me the history of this car? Any input would be most welcome. Cheers, Scott"

    from GSCReno

This Baur is not yet listed in the International Registry. I just ran a VIN check, and the car shows up as a1973 model 1802. I remember talking about this in here, but I don't recall the outcome. I have PM'd GSCReno to see if he can shed any light on this for us.

Hey guys. At last check (4 or 5 months ago) #1330 was still available, though vandals had smashed the windshield last time I saw it. I decided to pass on it because the current owner wants too much for it in its present state. He is looking for $1500 for it. Factor in the 12-18 months and several hundred dollars it will require to get a clear Nevada title, and it's just not viable for me at this point. Bloody shame really. I've got some pics of it somewhere. I'll see if I can dig 'em up and post them for you. Cheers, Scott

I would love to see those pics... I recall the VIN check on that car said it was a 1973 1802 Model. I forget exactly how that ever turned out. I put it on the Baur TC1s in the US map anyway.

    Hi Tom,

I also think that the 71242 isn't in Deutschland (Germany) anymore. The setting doesn't look like the normal German surroundings.

The 71330 should be a silver (polaris) 320/6 with bleu interior. VIN 6921633.

    Hi Jeroen,

Thanks for those updates. OK, so the search is on for 71242, last seen in the West Los Angeles area. Lots of E21 members out there, so maybe someone wil spot it, or hear about it. From the comments on that thread, it doesn't look like he got anywhere near his original 'buy it now' asking price ($4500)... Jeff (Alaskabimmer) reported the bidding at $323.00... so it may still be sitting in West LA unsold.
    http://translate.google.com/translat...om&client=tmpg

As for the 71330, I used the 'body number' as the VIN,... not having anything else... and that probably explains why it came up as a 1973. Your VIN looks like the right car.... and hopefully GSCReno can find some pics.

James, thanks for the Ireland Engineering update also. I will take that one off the Baur map. Any other info on your friend who bought that Baur form Central Tucson? VIN or Baur number? We saw the pic of it on the trailer.

I have a very rare 1978 Baur 320/6 imported from germany. This is one of a very few convertibles that were made in the Baur factory in germany. Has a clean and clear title and the original stamped card in the engine bay denoting that this body is in fact an original Baur. Many of the parts have been stripped off of it and it does not run. The engine looks to have been converted to use a Holley carb, and when I removed the valve cover to check the internals they were pristine! I mean really, really clean. Almost as if no one has even started the engine since putting it in. Will need to be town away, but this is a great investment for someone who wants to do a full restore on a truly rare car!

    73056 323i 1982 Michael in Austin Texas

We have identified this car from Jeroen's list as belonging to Michael P. in Austin Texas. He had it for sale on ebay a while back, didn't sell, and has decided to keep it, repaint and do some improvements. Welcome Michael!

That makes 3 Baurs in Austin!

    The VIN# is WBA30710006518470 (1979 323)

I did not get the Baur tag # for reasons of nearly being sick realizing after driving all day and seeing the car's condition. It turned out the car was totally stripped and gutted. I was informed it looked " pretty much like in the pictures" and it had ALL the parts to put it back together.

So not true, it was beyond repair.

Here are the pictures of the car as he said was the current condition.

Maybe another forum member bought it as Kevin said he had another buyer and promptly refunded my money.

Perhaps you can track it down if not on the registry already.

It appears that #73091 is a 323i in the right color.... but really hard to say. Thanks for the heads up... a new clue to follow up on! Any other info on the car or the owner may be helpful, but we have a starting point at least. Do you still have his email or phone?

James, thanks for following thru on that Tucson car. We look forward to hearing more.

    rudy92,
First we have to find the car and perhaps it's new/old owner... then who knows what may be possible! Stay tuned! If you find the car, that may give you first dibs on the bumpers! Or the whole car! Time to get crackin!!

Thank you, Jeroen! And thank you, conkitchen, for providing that information. It looks like #70748 is another previously unknown US Baur!

I hope to be able to come up with some firmer numbers on the US Baur count to date when I get that Baurblog started: BAURSPOTTING, noted in a new thread here in the forum. We are somewhere between 50 and 100 as far as I can tell. Thanks all!

Given all the E21s up in that area, I would think you should have no trouble finding a buyer for those euro bumpers once the word gets out!! Sellers market !

    Good luck with your sale.

Anyone have any recollection of this old thread from 2005? I see Bret/rigmaster engaged in it.... any idea what ever came of it? The guy in Houston states he has two Baurs.

    Here is another one:

Rigmaster has also reported that the shop near him in NC has two Baurs..... I had only reported one previously. That makes four possibly new Baurs (with the three noted above) added today..... no definitive information on any of them yet. They are added to the Baur location map.

Update: I spoke too soon.... here are three more!

Funny, that's the same car that "sold" on Ebay about a week ago....for ~$300.... Maybe the seller changed his mind, or is that an old ad???

Whoa. New old thread found.... bam2002, Alpina parts, back in February 2008:

    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...=942978&page=2

Baur #296. The first one in Jeroen's original list. Fascinating read about baur/alpina. Trying to find out if this is the one he sold to Texas.

UPDATE: Yes, bam2002 confirms that this is the car he sold to a guy in Texas!

Here it is in the Baur Registry:

    Here is another:
can this be #73583? Can there be TWO 323i Baurs in the NJ/PA area in this color?

OK here it is.... from Jeroen's list....

Bingo! Look at that front plate! Same car: Baur #73583.

We have identified this car from Jeroen's list as belonging to Michael P. in Austin Texas. He had it for sale on ebay a while back, didn't sell, and has decided to keep it, repaint and do some improvements. Welcome Michael!

That makes 3 Baurs in Austin!
New pics from Michael P in Austin TX. New paint job and new Hellas. Nice! Baur #73056.

I spoke with Jeremy at Ireland and he mentioned that he sold an e21 323 Baur. I'll be talking to him later this week and will find out its whereabouts.

    My 323 is #72910.
