This build has actually been running since July but I havent had the
time to get it out for tuning. I didnt want to start a thread until
after tuning but I figured what the hell, why not? At the moment im
squeezing in some time to get some other bits needed to actually drive
the car (like seats) and waiting on a few non essential parts. More
to come in due time.
Enjoy:

can you get me some more pics of the drivers side manifold/crossover pipe?
what turbo are you running?
That's a 4" straight pipe, right?
You're tuning on the 404DME or going standalone/piggyback?
I'm starting my similar build with my m60 540i/6 this spring and will be similar to this, just with an hx52 holset though.

Right now im not looking for any specific numbers. The engine is stock for now so i know im limited by that fact alone. Im running 4.5 psi and will eventually take it to 8 (depending).
What i plan on doing is getting it on the road to see (for myself) how this motor likes a turbo application. Then get it on a dyno, then build it over to its final specs. Get it on a dyno again, then sleeve the motor build an aluminum high flow intake, turn up the boost and dyno again. It will take some time but r&d always does.
Thanks, I will be post more detailed photos soon.
The driver and passenger sides are mirrored. It is quite an elaborate system, specially for the very limited space!
The turbo is a T66 carried over from the M30 the M62 replaced. Tuning is from a MS2 also carried over. Both will be replaced with the progression of this engine. And yes a 4" straight pipe. Over n under down pipe. I will be posting more pics after new year.

WOW!!
Am I seeing some creativity in there or what?
How low does the pan sit in relation to chassis?
How much does that engine weigh?
So you have NOT done fresh HG or upgraded bolts/studs?
Did it compression test pretty well?
Congrats so far.
Its running and mounted in the engine bay... half the battle.
What tranny/driveshaft/diffy/axles?
Nice!

Good to see the car finally..
ooo. i like this thread.
Killer build dude!! Ill be waiting for more pics...
I just stumbled on some info on this motor swap in e30s and im pretty excited about it. I think m60/62 might be the next DD project haha. So yeah more info on drive shafts/motor mounts etc would be interesting!

any updates yet?

Very cool!
Yes alot of creativity and fabrication! This engine fits like its suppose to be there. With my pan sitting literally maybe 1/8th to 3/16th" above the sub-frame, the sump of the pan still sits almost a half inch above the the lowest part of the sub-frame. With the sump sitting a 1/4" in front of the sub-frame, there is still just enough space to work on the rear of the engine . I am loving this swap
What i have found is that the engine weighs somewhere 450-480 fully dressed. No i didnt bother with the HG or studs YET. Because the compression test read a solid 225 across 7 cylinders with 1 reading closer to 230 and not a hint of smoke i didnt want to take it apart. I'll take the opportunity to test the stress levels of these components.
The trans and clutch is from an E39 M5. The front portion driveshaft and flex disk is from a e38 740 (the 540 auto doesnt fit). It needs to be shortened. Then the rear portion of the e38 drive shaft needs to be cut and re-welded to the stock e30 rear portion shaft. The diff is a 3.73 mounted to a complete E23 rear end .
yes Megasquirt
Thanks, more to come!
No problem. I wish i could disclose more info about the entire build but the car will be published in a magazine so the info here will be somewhat limited to the things that the mag wont show. But i can show more pics of the manifolds which i will do when i get back in town.

Awesome!
How do you have your MS setup, bank fire I'm guessing unless you're using MS3+MS3X? Otherwise, if you're using MS2Extra or something maybe it's possible to be on sequential, but I can't remember. . .
I've gotta say, the M62 in my 540i is one of my favorite engines I've ever had. It's just a really sweet motor. It would be an awesome beast in an e30!
Thats insane, excited to see more!
