FS: Z3 Coupe LED 3rd brake lights

    Two Options:
    Option A)
You get on the list (detailed below)
    I receive payment+core deposit
    You receive PnP replacement
You ship me your original light
    I refund your core deposit
You enjoy your new LED light

    Option B)
You remove your original light (or have a spare) and send it to me.
I receive payment (no core deposit required)
I rework it with LEDs(2 week estimated turn around from the day you ship to the day you get it back)*
I ship it back to you.
You enjoy your new LED light

How to get on the list:

    It's super simple:
    Open the hatch
Remove 3x rubber plugs at hinge area
    Remove 3x 10mm nuts
    Close hatch gently
Lift wing and unplug (1x plug)
Push light from back out of roof spoiler (3x metal spring clips)
    - Or -
Others mention further in the thread you can pull the light without removing the wing by carefully prying it out but I do not recommend this as they are typically very tight and you can break the light this way.

An awesome video sitdownrando made up of his experience:

Then shoot some photos for me. Just general condition of the light to ensure nothing is broken/missing. You do NOT need to disassemble it as I'd prefer to do this myself to try and keep the original screws in good condition as they easily strip. Areas of particular interest are: The condition of the exposed lens, the 3 metal clips are not loose in relation to the plastic housing, the light plug is in good condition and there is no cracking (typically around the thinner sections of the rear plastic)

Once you receive the new LED light you can swap them out and send me back your old light. PLEASE insure the shipment for $300 to ensure in the event of damage or loss we can replace it with a new one. I send every light out with $300 insurance to everyone that it goes to, USPS priority ends up being less than $20 with insurance to the west coast.

    Costs:
    Standard LED light:
    Option A
    $215 shipped both ways
Core deposit: $300 that is fully refundable

    Option B
    $200 shipped
(You cover shipping to me, $300 insured via UPS highly suggested)

Note: For those shipping their personal light to me USPS sells a Ready-Post box that is 24x2x2 that is perfect for these lights and is ~$5.

    Optional:
Continuous (Sky's) flashing modules: +N/A (I don't prefer these and do not offer than anymore)
Accelerometer based flashing modules: +$xx with default programing (not currently available as of Oct 2021)
Programmable flasher: +$45 (flash rate, # of flashes, repeat are programmable by me prior to shipping)

Accelerometer flashing options: (You can program, I do not do them often enough or have a way to test to verify settings)
    Default Programming:
Mounting: Wires toward front of vehicle
    Lockout: None
Initial power: 6 slow(rate 8) standard flashes then continuous on
Medium braking: setting 2, 6 fast(rate 4) standard flashes then continuous on
Hard braking: setting 5, 16 very fast(rate 2) standard flashes then continuous on

    All Programming options:
    Mounting:
    1-Wires to front
    2-Wires to rear
    3-Wires to driver side
4-Wires to roof (not really for us but it's an option!)

    Lockout:
    -None
-Dynamic #1: The longer you engage the pedal the longer it takes to reset the flasher (up to approx. 30 seconds). i.e. you're in bumper to bumper and not giving a EDM show to the guy behind you every foot you move
-Dynamic #2: The longer you engage the pedal the SHORTER it takes to reset the flasher. i.e. I have no idea why this would ever be useful
    -Timed: 3, 6, 9, 15, 25, 35 seconds

    Brake Forces:
    -Medium: settings 1-5 (0.25-0.50Gs)
    -Hard: settings 1-10 (0.25-0.80Gs)

    Flashing Modes:
1-Standard (X flashes then continuous on)
2-Fast Flashing followed by slow flashing
3-Continuous change from Fast to slow flashing rate
    4-Flashing disabled

    Number of Flashes: 1-20

    Flash rate: 1-8

    Repeat programming:
    1-Disabled
    2-Repeat after 4 sec
    3-Repeat after 8 sec
    4-Repeat after 12 sec
    5-Repeat after 16 sec
    6-Repeat continuously

    Photos:

    Mounted photos:
    OEM original:

    New and improved LED:

Honestly the camera doesn't catch it for what it really looks like and makes it look poorer than it does to the eye.

    Thanks for looking.

How do these differ from what Sky offered last year? http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...e-Light-Teaser

I think current availability is a big difference, Sky seems to have dropped off the map... which is a shame as I'd love to buy another HID retrofit kit...

I didn't know Sky was making them.

I don't know what parts he was using or what module he had or where he was putting it for the flashing bits.

I can tell you that these are 9300 mcd 626nm (red) LED's which are rather bright. (I wore my sunglasses looking at them to try to get the alignment as spot on as possible so I wasn't seeing a ton of spots when I turned them off.

Also, I'm offering the swapping option versus the send me yours and I'll return it when I'm done route.

He's around. Shoot him a PM or email and I'd imagine he'll be able to help you.

Gotcha. Don't know if he is making them or not. Just know he had for some people. Same idea, I'd imagine, as far as parts and design. But I know nothing about LEDs.

I never saw his OP about doing these so if he wants to keep doing them as soon as I unload the three sets of parts I have he can have the "market" back.

I haven't seen him around too much recently either, but I am certainly not trying to step on toes.

Last I spoke with him he was ditching the inventory he had during the move and from what I gathered was not interested in making another run of them. I will contact him shortly and see what he says, maybe now that he is a bit more settled in at his new place he will be open to doing another batch of the HID retrofit kits.

He was rather anxious at the idea of me making them not too long ago on a Facebook thread discussion for those as well. Again, I am not trying to step on toes, but offer options to people that want them,

Im still around guys. Just Very Very busy with life at the moment.

Robb, no toes stepped on here. do your thing. I didn't invent LED brakelights by any stretch. If you want the Flash modules I use text me and ill send you the info. they are very small and fit inside the stock wing along with the wiring no problem.

as far as headlight brackets, im more than willing to do another batch... so long as its 10+ sets at a go.

If you don't mind shooting me a PM with the flasher info I might as well take a look into it since a few have asked. I dunno if I have your number to text you... and if I do I still don't have my phone with me during working hours (Second shift) and would likely forget when I got to my 4Runner anyway.

Glad to see you're still about.

So who wants this first light?!

I'm interested. I'll get some pics tonight, since figuring out LEDs all around is on my to-do list for this evening anyway.

EDIT: Is there also a lot of glue under there? I pulled the three nuts off, but the wing doesn't seem to want to move much.

Curiously, the Bentley doesn't mention removing the wing at all to get at that, merely prying the lamp out with a plastic spudger. Seems like a good way to break clips.

The wing removal is unnecessary. Just pull the light straight out with an O ring puller and youre good.

    Mounted photo shots are up.

The camera was on a tripod and exposure settings were unchanged so these are as good as comparison as I can get.

Also thanks to Sky's info the blinking is an option. All the ones I found were much bigger than this option.

Robb/ Sky, what blinking sequences is the module capable of? Any videos available for those of us who might be interested in this feature?

If we opt for the blinking module will it be permanent or can it be disabled in the future?

From the description it seems to be a constant variable speed blink. I don't have any video since I have no experience with them yet. Other models I've seen have settings to blink a handful of times then go constant that would need to be wired into the car since its too big to fit under the wing like this one.

I believe the one that does fit under the wing is selectable on off, you just need to get to it to switch the settings from how it reads. Or remove it and splice back in the wiring it would replace.

How hard would it be to do one that only blinks under hard braking? Would we need to run another switch under the brake pedal or something to sense when its almost at the ground? I asked Sky something similar awhile ago but didn't follow up with it too much but, I'd be very interested in something like that.

If you can do the blinking like ABLAS (under hard braking) I'd plop some money down ASAP!
