Temp Sensor

While replacing some old air intake boots I found two different intake temperature sensors. One of them had the wires cut while the other seemed to be properly connected. I know the car was in a front end collison at some point and wondering if the cut one is from replacement intake box? Can anyone tell me 1) is there only disposed to be one temp sensor? 2) which is the correct one?
Also, my OBC temp does work.

As I remember it should be 2, one for instrument cluster and one for dme's.

On the M70 of my E32 750
air intake temp. sensors are inside the MAF , Nr. 1 shown here http://bmwe32.masscom.net/sean750/MA...leshooting.htm

then there are 3 coolant temp sensors on the back of the engine
On my 750 M70 there are from right side to center
ECT = engine coolant temperature sensor on M70 engine is at the right rear of engine in coolant cross pipe, 3-pins
That goes to the both DME, brown/red wire and ground to DME 1, brown/red/yellow wire and ground to DME 2.
Testing data are in the Bentley repair Manual page 130-35

left one >>temperature gauge sender
right one>> engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (DME)
middle one>>>EML coolant temperature sensor

Location: in coolant crosspipe at rear of engine under the coolant expansion tank.

The open circuit supply to the sensor is at a 5.0 volt reference level and this voltage reduces to a value that depends upon the resistance of the CTS resistance. Normal operating temperature is usually from 80° to 100° C.
The ECU uses the CTS signal as a main correction factor when calculating ignition timing and injection duration.

1 is 5 Kohm
you can double check that in the Bentley repair Manual page 130-35, here are the ohms at different temperatures http://www.e32-schrauber.de/bmw/s-tempsensor.htm
use realoem.com, search for the part numbers and then google search with it for data

Only one on my 850. It has a yellow connector, located under driver side headlight assy and plugs into side of the air channel that cools the brakes.

Was it just hanging there? Where? I also have a 92. It looks familiar but I can't remember where I have seen it.

Only one on my 850. It has a yellow connector, located under driver side headlight assy and plugs into side of the air channel that cools the brakes.

There are 2 air temp sensors - 1 in each brake cooling duct. The one on the drivers side (left) is similar to the ones in the rear of each intake runner on the M70. The other one on the passenger side (right) is actually a "button". Both are mounted to the underside of each respective duct.

It was properly seated on the underside of the passenger side duct but wires were cut. Not sure where it's supposed to connect to?

I am going to go look for mine tonight. Car has been running rough since the temperature dropped and this would I assume affect it if missing or damaged.

I am missing my left brake duct, it was gone when I bought the car. Thanks for the Pictures

My Entire Duct is missing this picture was taken from the Driver Side Wheel Well. Car is a 1991 850. I found the sensor PN for the 94+ but could not find one for the 1991 on Real OEM, I did not see any buttons or the Yellow electrical Connector either. My right duct is intact, I am going on the assumption everything there is intact.
