Ya'll -
Do any of the gas stations in or around Madison sell race gas (110 octane)?
I've heard that you have to go to Waunakee (Meifferts Oil) or Evanston for 110.

I heard some place in Middleton has race gas. Can anyone confirm?
We tried to find this mythical gas station in madison one time. Called every station in the phone book trying to find it. None of them had anything over 93.
Scooter Therapy used to have high octane, but they seem rather unintelligent about it... and they sell it in scooter sized portions. If you plan to use alot you can go to Performance Plus just a ways off Verona Road, they will order you 55 gallon drums of whatever octane you like.
Ok, I've done some research, and these are the places I've heard about...
Citgo in Evansville has 110 *Verified by calling, they do sell 'racing fuel' but the counter girl was unsure if it was leaded or unleaded
Deals on Wheels outside of Cottage Grove has 116 (55gallon drum only)
Stop & Go at Center Ave and Rockport Road in Janesville has 109 *Verified by phone, they do sell race gas, but unsure of lead or octane
Moore's Towing on Mineral Point Road (middleton?) has 110
Meffert Oil in Waunakee has 110
Zurbuchen Oil in Verona has 109
BP in Lyndon Station has 111
If anyone knows of more please add them to the list!

Thanks for posting this!!
Looks like I need to do some driving to see what brands they carry, gotta make sure it's unleaded. Thanks again.
Most of these are leaded. Rumor has it that the Citgo in Evansville is unleaded, but I have not confirmed that myself yet.
With that being said, I've run leaded in my nissan, couple of mustangs, my DSM, and my camaro without any damage to the O2 sensor. Granted, I only ran it on track days and not everyday. Haven't run it in the 540 at all, since it's bone stock. The Bosch sensors are pretty robust though. It's all a matter of if you're willing to replace the O2 sensor or not =)

I will get this parked this weekend!
Has anyone used this in an E36? I heard that the only way to not blow your o2 is by going half race half premium, is that true? Is it alright to just run 110 every now and then? Just curious... thanks guys!
I think it needs to be unleaded to guarantee that you won't do any damage. I wasn't planning on running full race gas, just 50/50 like you suggested. I have spare o2 sensors, so I guess I should be the one to try it.Originally Posted by MiBmr
I'll put some in the E39 next time I'm empty and will see what happens... O2 can't be more than a couple hundred dollars, so if I melt one it's no biggie.
I ran leaded race gas all the time in my DSM due to the boost levels I was running and never blew out an O2, however, as with anything car related, what works for me might not work for you. I also run leaded in my nissan for boost reasons again, but that has a wideband plugged into the AEM, so it probably isn't as easily damaged (I hope!). I'd be more than happy to guinea pig my car along with Dustent.
Mixing the fuel has the added benefit of tricking the girlfriend/wife into letting you take the twisties faster... "But honey, we have to go through these fast in order to keep the gas well mixed" LOL

Brad, have you been to the meets?Originally Posted by 540i6spdWI
We should get together and huff race gas.
Dusten.
Thanks for using your cars as the test subjects guys! Let me know how everything works out, and where a good place for me to get unleaded race gas would be. I noticed the list that 540i6spdwi posted, but not sure if all those places have unleaded.
I was at the last meet by MT Horeb for a very short time. I was the old man who brought his wife and kid...Originally Posted by dustent
Nothing better than the smell of race gas LOL =)
I am fairly new to Bimmerforums, but I live in Mount Horeb and am friends with a couple other guys here. I was also at that meet if you are talking about the one on 7/30 but I don't really remember seeing you there. I left before the cookout but stayed long enough to have my car in the group pic, maybe I missed you...
Yeah, I came late and left early... the curse of being old
Mmmmmm sunoco . . . when I was unemployed, errrr partially self employed and had lots of time to hang out at my old race sponsors bike shop, the drums in the corner would get cracked every once in awhile and that was just pure sweetness.Originally Posted by 540i6spdWI
A couple of us would split 110 and run it 50/50. It's not a great idea to leave it in the tank at full strength, as it'll do a number on injectors and other internal parts if left unattened. Run it all through at half strength and you should be fine. That being said though, I've never run it in the car like that, just my race bike.
there is a place in Verona that sells it. Also in Dodgeville there is a place where i get my Meth.

I finally made it to the Citgo in Evansville, completely by accident. I was shocked to see race gas on 3 pumps. I put 3 gallons in a full tank of gas, made a noticeable difference for me on my way to Lake Geneva and back. I recently switched to my hotter "winter" plugs and I could tell I was running more timing with the addition of the race gas.
Specs:
Citgo Race Gasoline
RON - 113
RdON - 110
AKI (R+M)/2 - 110
MON - 107
Color - Red
Lead, gm/gal - 3.0+
Yes, it is leaded. You can pay at the pump too, so I assume you can buy it 24x7.

I spoke with these guys a couple months ago. They sell Torco 114 octane race gas. I just did a mapquest on them and it's only 3.6 miles from my house! I'll stop down there and see what their setup is and what they charge.
Moore's Towing looks shady. There are two above ground tanks for race gas, the ones with the old school dial meters. Not sure how fresh the gas is. There is a tacky side outside proudly announcing everyone who's had a check bounce there.
I opted for the 20 drive to Evansville. I've run 3 tanks of 110 octane and 93 octane blend (60% premium, 40% race). Everything seems to be working fine and my car absolutely loves the race fuel. Not sure how much the N/A cars will respond to this, but with the supercharger it's a big deal.
