The fronts are actually PERFECT! Thank goodness too cause I bet they would be a little bit more difficult to reskew.

The rears centers basically just pop out, but it takes some finesse since they are glued in there from the factory.

    Thanks for the compliments guys!

I just got my new wheels and tires. ARC8s in 17x9 with 255/40/17s all around.

    Proper pics pending

"Lamborghini, the tractor maker, wanted to figure out why his Ferrari's clutch kept crapping out (PITA, cost a lot of money). He complained to Ferrari, and Enzo didn't do anything. Lamborghini discovered it was the same, much cheaper clutch used in his tractors. The rest is history..."

    Here is an update,

Rob got screwed on his paint job, if he cares to elaborate he can. I now have the car and it will be getting a proper job done to it. Car will be properly jammed out, then reassembled and painted as a full car. Photo updates will happen every Sunday.

Car will be shot BC/CC with an Iwata Supernova 1.4. Base coat will be ProSpray, Clear will be SPI universal high solids. Parts of the body will be featherfilled and blocked to sharpen up the lines after the prior poor work.

Here are some horror photos as well as the initial masking photos before we started to knock off all the old paint.

The guy who was previously doing the paint was just an individual. He will not be attempting to paint ever again. I am upset because he hustled me on the paint job. I had another person lined up, and he kept showing me all these cars he "painted". Looking back, they must have all be factory paint jobs, not his work! lololol. Anyways, he was a stand up guy and refunded me all my money, so it was a mutual agreement to let him quit the job.

I am excited for more updates from Jonathan on my paint work. He is currently painting another friends e30 and his knowledge about paint and prep work is incredible. We need to all give Jonathan some more business!!!

I am excited to where this build goes. I may be thinking S54

That's great news you got your money back AND found someone talented to fix it.

An M-tech is the perfect candidate for an S54 swap if there ever was one... emissions exempt and all the goodies just waiting for a worthy powerplant.

The current motor is definitely a beast. I am just starting to get used to the power and with 255s all around, it hooks up. When I had the 245s out back, with a 3.38 it burnt out all through second and was much more fun.

    I just built a custom 3 clutch 3.46 diff.

I was thinking it was going to be crazy (based off my experience with the 3.38) and really it is not too bad. Now I wish I went with a higher ratio like a 3.91 or 4.10. With the 3.46, I am right at 3k rpm at 80mph. I just cant wait to pop on some old 16in wheels in the back to play around in.

Here are two pics for inspiration. First is S54 and second is built S52 w 7500redline and turbo, lol!

    Better late than never right?

Some photos are out of order but this car has been a very big learning experience. Lots of hidden dents and surprises.

I have a few more pictures but those are on DSLR instead of my phone, they will be added later.

    Looks great. I'm definitely jealous.
I'm also pleasantly surprised you didn't do any significant modifications "while you're at it" like a body kit, shaving trim, etc. I think its hard to beat a perfectly perfect stock M3 body, and it goes perfectly with the theme of the restoration.
The before-and-after with the stripper is a pretty cool photo. I did a complete repaint on my old VW a few years back, and that photo brings back some memories. The thought of diving in on something like that on my BMW is terrifying.
