Planning on hardwiring my V1, figure the only spot to permanently mount would be under the rearview because of the rear detection. Any other ideas?? Pics???
Common V1 installation placement:
- Above the passenger side of the rear view mirror.
- Inside the Homelink/UGDO housing (stealth install).
- Inside the center head rest of the back seat (stealth install).
Can you explain in more detail the

Thanks

I dont know much about these V1's... but look at 'stealth one'
they have a pretty cool setup in which the unit is completely hidden and the information is sent to the high obc screen. OR the navigation screen.
im sure its not cheap too...
I have Stealth One installed on both my cars and just move the V1 between the cars. Ihave the detector mounted high to the right of the Mirror and cops never look for it there. I live in VA where radar detectors are illegal - I have gone through traffic stops and toll booths where the cops havent seen it.
I have been pulled over for Tint in VA and the cops walked around the car looking for something else to write a ticket for and they never saw it.
As far as Stealth One goes it performs flawlessly. - JT
I have it in my rear headrest, impossible to see from outside and works fine. The wires itself are hardwired into the homelink like everyone else, and I have the remote in the center console ashtray.
Cheers,
Dan

I only have the V1 regular install DIY in the Quick Link list.
Radar Detector Install/Hardwire (Valentine One)
Let me see if I can find the two stealth install DIYs.
Edit: Here's the V1 install in the UGDO housing.

I bought a custom rear view mirror mount from EAC tuning. After a few weeks I went back to suction cups.
I originally mounted my RD suction cupped to the windshield:
I purchased a Super "Z" mount from Country Joy and just finished the install:

James
something wrong in your install
i would like to move it more to window so it will not stick into your face
also to close to red nose so GPS ( I do have it ) will not work good
i installed it this way

I think it's perfect for where I sit. I don't sit in the back like a lot of soul drivers do, but I sit far enough away from the air bag that my view of the RD is ideal. I also like that it will have less exposure to the sun in it's current position.
Luckily this works just the way I want it because this was the only configuration that worked with this mount. I haven't experimented enough with it yet, but I'll fool around with it a bit and see if I can improve on where it's placed.
Edit: I see what you edited in your post. Thanks for posting that. I need to switch the lower part around I think.

I like the way both installations look. I'll try both.
On second thought after seeing the two configurations, I think your install offers more flexibility. I'm going to switch it.

I switched the hardware around and I like it much more now. I'll post a pic of the final positioning soon.
you installation also gives more false alerts as it too close to the red nose
someone on M5 forums told this ...

Did mine like this (driver's side) so I can reach it easily to mute it and it's more in my peripheral so I can see it go off:
But you could put it on the other side:
Thanks for posting that.
Unfortunately the bracket for mounting to the RVM is way too big and won't fit on an E39. The bracket champaign777 and I posted pics of are very thin and beveled on one side to allow for RVM adjustment.
With that being said if I sat any closer to the steering wheel, I would NOT be able to adjust the RVM properly and the mount would not work.

I have mine low center so it can pick up laser more easily (RX-65).
I hardwired it into the telephone power line so it turns on when I turn the key
