I just thought that this would be nice to have available online when we are diagnosing electrical problems. For record it is from a 1998 540i, but hopefully the majority of the fuse locations apply to more than just that year. The trunk fuse guide is the second post below.

Where are fuses 75 & 76?
Thank you for this post. It was very helpful. My 99 528i wasn't responding to the key remote. I had to insert the key to lock/unlock and as you might imagine this was unacceptable. I also noticed that the autolock feature wasn't working when I began to drive. I assumed fuse b/c of the two seemingly unrelated malfunctions. It was fuse 53, the Central Locking System fuse in the trunk. I hope someone can use this info.
I don't see which of these fuses controls the turn signals? Does anyone know? My left Turn Signal is not working and I am hoping that it is just the fuse?
Thank you all for your help.
Nice! Very helpful!

Re: e39 fuse 75 (50 amp) and 76 (40 amp) — I was at the BMW dealership for some other work and wanted to pick up the 40 amp fuse (my blower is out and just in case it's not the FSU, I wanted the replacement fuse handy), and you know what they said? "Are you sure it's a 40 AMP fuse? We don't carry anything higher than 30 AMP? We don't use anything higher than that on the cars."
Then...why does the fuse diagram say "40 amp" for fuse 76? Any ideas? Or is this simply dealership being stupid?
printed and is living in my glovebox. thanks!
my hazards dont work anymore..the switch still lights up but when i push it down it doesn't engage. before it went out it did go off once by itself then it stopped working ever since..so what would it be under?

Thanx for sharing . Many people will find this useful when searching.
These maps helped me diagnose my not-unlocking-gas-door issue. I found a blown fuse in the trunk and replaced it. Viola!
Rules to live by:
- Fast, reliable, cheap. You can only have two.
- Do it right, or do it twice.
- BMW: Just because you can afford to buy one, that doesn't mean you can afford to own one.

Scroll back up to post #3 and check out the fuse index that was attached in the post. Then look for the fuses in the trunk (above the battery and probably behind the insulation).
I say "probably" behind the insulation since I have a Touring and mine are behind the subwoofer in the cargo area...but the trunk fuses in my e38 740iL are also in the battery compartment behind the pre-cut slit in the insulation.
And if you look at the diagram...you'll see that it shows what the fuses are for back there...PLUS...their location within the gang box...AND...the (nbr) and order the fuses are located within the gang box and their amperage.
(trunk fuses in an e38 located behind the insulation...should be similar in the e39 sedan)

Thank you!
This can become extremely useful for me for my E39 was imported for Germany and therefor everything is in German, and I don't understand much in German, only easy stuff.
Much appreciated.

Qsilver!! I must say you are a "GENEIOUS" and I am a "DUMMY", I must have looked at that fuse gang box in the trunk a thousand times to see where the numbers for the fuses might be. It never dawned on me to correspond that gang box to the diagram of the fuses listed behind the cover. (no #s on the gang box) Now I have power in the cigarette lighter, the 30 amp fuse was missing. Thanks a million, I bow my head to you Qsilver.
Is there one of the fuses that involves the radio antennae? Mine isn't working, so I'd like to know if there's a fuse to check before I go ripping out the rear driver's side C-pillar cover.
On your E39: Did you ever find out about Fuses 75 (50 Amp) and 76 (40 Amp). The Post with the Fuse Block Diagram shows 75 as being the Auxilary Fan, but I cannot find it. I think 30 Amp is the biggest BMW puts in the fuse block and these 2 are located elsewhere, probably like 66 another 40 Amp which is the Heated Rear Window. Could these 3 be the larger "Socket Type" fuses hanging off the side of the fuse block in the trunk? If so, is 66 the first, then 75 and 76 as you count downward? I could never find out what 76 was for, could you?
Wierd, in my car a copy of this is glued to the back of the battery door for the rear fuses and a copy is attached to the front fuses as well. Am I the only person who has these?

In the Glovebox diagram the two blocks run in numbers from 1-20 and 21-45 the 2 additional fuses 75 & 76 are off to the right in the diagram but nowhere to be found in the glovebox. Any ideas?
hew! I scoured the forum, searched the car, and couldnt find it. I almost accidentally found the missing blower heater fan fuse, numbers 75 and 76. Yes, they are behind the glove box fuses..........sort of. What you have to do is look under, and in front of, the glove box, just above where the passenger feet would be. There is a sliding panel. Just pull it towards the rear of the car. Up under here there are two big fuses, mounted from above, down into their sockets. I don't know why it was such a problem to get the information, hopefully I have been successful in helping you.
Mine were OK.
