Yeah; little cubby hole and the OBD port is in there too

That's the Euro dash. One of the most worthwhile upgrades to the E39, IMO You can retrofit it to North American E39s with this kit:

    D2 coilovers ordered and collected

Booked in on Wednesday 08th Nov to have them fitted along with new drop links and ARB bushes all round and a fast road setup

    - - - Updated - - -

Car had been back to the body shop yesterday; he wasn't happy with how the lacquer had settled on the front-end respray; so he's flatted it off again and polished it to a gleaming finish

I'm really happy with the bodywork now; it's not perfect, never will be, it's a 15 year old car! But, it looks massively cleaner now and the panels all feel like glass (bar the roof )

I need to 3M refurb the OS headlight, you can see in the pics the difference between that one (original) and the replaced OEM Hella headlight on the NS (was replaced a month before I bought the car). Will get on to that in the next day or so as weather looks to be fine for a few days **Edit** headlight now refurbed using the £m kit; looks a lot better, but still doesn't have the clarity of the new passenger side headlight, so may look to replace it with a new one come the New Year!

It's still bothering my OCD haha

    82mm stud conversion kit ordered:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371575433483

Will probably get some nicer looking wheel nuts such as Ultralite ones from SPD Automotive (where I got my coilovers from) such as these:

    http://www.spdautomotive.co.uk/acata...6.html#SID=153

Will get these fitted on Wednesday along with the coilovers and then see what spacers I can get away with on the alloys; might just be that 15mm spacers are needed upfront etc

    Suspension/coilovers installment part 1:

Will sort Part 2 out tomorrow or Friday (when interior is refitted and car sits as I want it)

For now, this will do as I'm brain dead, mad hungry and missing skin of various knuckles and the middle of my scalp (stood up when I shouldn't have)

    - - - Updated - - -

Back on the drive; had another ride height tweak and steering geometry tweak and all is as it should be now

Haven't gone too low for now; want to see winter out before I drop it any lower; it's 25mm lower at the rear and 30mm at the front; more than enough for what state the roads around me will get in soon and for when we trek up to Dunkeld and back in Feb etc:

Looks sweet! A little more sidewall on the tires to fill out the wheel wells, and maybe a little more spacer up front would make it just about perfect to me, but this looks like a great setup.

I've got 15mm spacers for the fronts; should be with me in the next day or so

The rears are 265/35 tyres, OEM spec, so happy for them to stay as they are for now. Might be looking to sell my alloys and buy some new ones, so may go for a wider tyre then, but I'm fine with the OEM sized tyres

They ride very well Had them on a lot of previous cars and on my previous 530i. No noise, no harshness, smooth and quiet, firmer than stock but not stupidly hard and the car handles like it's on rails now

15mm hubcentric spacers fitted to the front of the car; wheels sit much better now, just under the arches and not hidden away like they were previously

Running 5mm hubcentric shims on the rear still and they're fine, any more and the tyres would rub the arches, more so fat boy here sat in it

Weather's getting colder and colder here now in North West England; so winter alloys & tyres will probably be fitted later this week and then, fingers crossed, that's the work done on the car for this year

New Year will bring about a full brake disc, pad, lines and fluid overhaul and will then get someone to refurbish the drivers seat (currently covered with a heated seat cover ) and may look to get the steering wheel retrimmed too

Well; front brakes decided they couldn't wait until the NY to get refreshed; so they were done last week:

New calipers, discs and pads ordered for upfront, had a sticky front NS caliper issue so replaced the whole lot rather than just one side!

    • Mtec grooved discs (hats painted Hammerite satin black to stop rust)
    • Mtec brake pads (proving to be very good so far after being bedded in over the first 150miles)
    • Professionally refurbed ATE brake calipers (painted Hammerite satin black)
    • Motul brake fluid

Fitted my 16" turbines and winter tyres also; the cars all set up for the UK winter now

Booked in next week for a professional paint detail and sealant

Hopefully most of the fine scratches and swirls will disappear and my car will be looking like glass up close and not just from a distance

    Drivers seat restored

Had some parts of the foam repaired and then the base of the seat was re-dyed and it was 'feathered' up the back to blend in

Looks brand new, but it'll soon wear to how the rest of the interior looks (in excellent condition, but worn/weathered) once I've used it for a good month or so

    Before:

    After:

CCV kit, oil filter housing gasket and inlet mani gaskets ordered, so that'll be the next job to do and then I'll get it booked in for an autobox service and will look into Eibach ARBs after that

    Scrubs up well

Engine bay got a little love too as it was filthy/dusty as hell with all the salt that's been on the roads

It's in my pals garage next week to have the CCV system renewed and the oil filter housing gasket replaced as it's started to weep

It'll then be booked in for an autobox service (new filter and fluids) and then I'm going to look into uprating the ARBs as I feel they'd be the finishing touch to the complete suspension overhaul the car has received!
