I am looking at getting a 7 series, between 2011 and 2015. Why are 750 cheaper than 740?
Because the N63 V8 engine is a giant piece of garbage.

The 1st iteration of the BMW N63 (N63B44O0) engine has issues that BMW tried/is trying to correct. If you must have a BMW 7 series with the V8 engine...wait until one with one of the engines below falls within your means/budget/radar:
- N63TU (N63B44O1)
- N63TU2 (N63/B44O2)
- N63TU3 (N63/B44O3)
...otherwise, you may want to steer toward the models with the I6 engine (740).

As usual great information provided by Q......thank you.
Current: 2010 750 LI Sport (Ruby Black) and 2008 X5 4.8L Sports Package (Metallic Black)
Previous: 2001 740 IL M-Sport package (Schwarz Black),
2001 X5 (Metallic Black) & 1998 740 IL (Artic Silver).
On http://bmwfans.info/vin/decoder, my car shows as the following. Is N63N the same as N63TU? Does the production date confirm that it is n63tu?
Series 7' F01N Body Sedan Engine N63N Region USA Left-hand drive, Transmission: Automatic Production date September 2013
Yes...the N63B44O1 or N63TU or N63N is the engine iteration that came AFTER the original N63B44O0 (aka N63).
And yes, I would say that a production date of Sept/2013 does not fall into the March/2009 - June/2012 production range of the original N63B44O0 (aka N63) engine for the F01/F02 7 series.

Thanks for confirming @Qsilver7.
Are they still garbage, if they change the engine, part of settlement. BMW claims, it has improved and better hardware and this should not happen after engine change. Is this true?
No way to know for now. None of the replacement engines have enough mileage on them.

I have 5K on my replaced engine. I am getting ready to take the car for oil change. To keep warrantty I have to use BMW oil or I can ask for Mobile1?
Thanks
If you are going to the dealership, unless they sell multiple makes of vehicles, they will be putting in the Penzoil/Shell brand oil that BMW has a contract with.

If you have a replacement engine, and to keep the warranty on that engine requires that you use a BMW approved oil...why would you "ask" for Mobile 1? Mobile 1 is no longer "approved" by BMW. They took them off the LL01 & LL04 list. Until the warranty on the new engine expires...I would suggest to "play by their rules"...then once you're out from under their thumb...do what you want.
Up until their contract expires...like White94RX said...BMW and Shell are in partnership:

I am sorry... I was making sure my new engine lasts longer then 30K. Obviously what they use as previous threads from knowledgeable folks like you mentions is not very durable and maybe a contributing factor in failures, who know...
I dont know what is required to keep the warranty. I have other cars, old and new, always used Mobile1 and never had any problems. I am not sure there is a better oil than Mobile1, you may know better then myself.
Oil is oil. Mobil 1 is no better than Shell, or anything else.

Respectfully I disagree. If all the oils were same, then it will be no difference in buying O'Riely brand oil for $3.99. There are various oils with different ratings and pricess and they are different.
You'd be surprised to know how similar they really are. I'm in the industry, I may have a little insight.

Now that 5-6 years has passed...based on threads and discussions on most BMW forums...the N63TU and its iterations tend not to have the major issues the original N63 engine had. To quote you..."not completely, but less".
The chart below is from the BMW N63TU Technical doc...it lists some of the major changes BMW made to update the N63TU (B44O1). Here's a link to download the complete N63TU PDF: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...prirXNPrNHIMR-
