Au contrare! That is thinking outside the box for a change. Now as for the stretched tires and ridiculous slam..you may have something there.

FUGLY IMO, pre-facelift kidneys and too much slam...

not to mention flat colours don't suit E39s !

I'm thinking the only suspension compression that is available in that car is in the seats.

i can see a vison with this car, think about it guys it just seems unfinished it could become a great theme... with the matte green u can make it into a us army vehicle them with the right design and get rid of the chrome and put in shadow line. this can be something great.

The VW flat paint-stretched tire-air ride theme is moving over. Pics inside may reveal plaid headliner too.

    I like your attitude

I like this thing a lot. I probably wouldn't have done flat green personally, but it works well with the car. And it's on bags for you "can't drive it" people.

Also agreed. I'm loving the paint, but I feel like the wheels are a tad too large, it's too low, and the stretch is out of control. I think it would look great with a tasteful drop. I won't hate on any car that's had good quality work/effort put into it though (and I feel that's evident here).

    Kind of like it,

wish it was gloss drab though.

Owner should probably work on getting a matching trim set and perhaps an mtech rear to match the front, car looks unbalanced.

Don't mind the stretch or wheels or stance, would never drive it like that, but it looks good standing still, good thing its easily adjustable.

After looking at your touring & the one posted, I need to get M5 mirrors.

    any time, any place
I can dig it, whoever it belongs to. I would suggest he or she paint those M5 mirrors to match as that is not doing the car any favors having them mismatched. Other than that, it looks great, and the wheel fitment is great.

I can't remember if any of the pre-facelift kidney grilles came with all-black slats. I know that post facelift were either all black slats or chrome edge slats.

If not, I kinda like the pre-facelift grilles with black slats on this particular car.

If the outer edge were black on this car, it would look like they were missing.

    • 51 13 2 497 261 (M - CHROM) - From 09/2000. Listed here for the 540i and M5, retrofit for the early 540i. The grill from a 2000 M5, and both the 2001-2003 540 and M5. Wide chrome bezel, chrome-edged slats.

The 1st grill, the 528i (SCHWARTZ):

The 2nd grill, the 1996-2000 540i (CHROM) grill:

The 3rd grill, the 525i/530i (SCHWARTZ) grill:

The 4th grill, the M5/2001-2003 540i (M-CHROM) grill, is not technically all chrome. Only the edges of the slats are chrome, whereas the sides are black:

The 5th, "ebay chrome grill" is chrome all over, including the side faces of the slats:

    .

Here is a comparison of the 1996-2000 540i grill versus the M5 grill:

Note that not all e39s follow "the rules" when it comes to grills. BMWNA was free to change small details from time to time when importing cars, thus here in the US we may see some differences. Moreover, in addition to the 5th "ebay chrome grill" there is the aftermarket matte black grill and it's small number of variants.
