    Help with F10 550 or M5 purchase

    I recently got rid of my 2004 ZHP that I've had for 15 years and I've used as my errand drive. I already have a 2018 Audi Q7 as family car, but I am still looking for a daily driver car now that can fit my kids in the back. Cars I've been looking are later years (2014+) BMW 550, M5 and perhaps 2017+ Audi S7. I live in the city, so I want a luxury drive that can double as a fun weekend mountain drive. Not into racing much, but enjoy tight suspensions and hard cornering w/out body rolls.

    So my question ... I found a couple low miles F10 550 with N63TU and a local 2014 M5 with 20K+ miles. I know all about N63 issues, but not clear to me whether N63TU or S63 have cooling, oil consumption and rod bearing issues have been resolved. There seem to be a lot of varying opinions on the topic with no clear data. I don't want to hear 'personal' stories as I get that some engines just luck out better than others.

    On the S63tu, Issues haven’t been resolved other than more strict preventative maintenance. If the 20k mile car is under warranty, that may make the difference but nothing has been done, by BMW at least, to address these problems just about every f10 gets. OPINION ALERT, I’ve really liked the “Hot-V” design less and less. After getting the car to temp and opening the hood, the plastics are even too hot to touch. That engine bay is a heat sink. I’m wanting to get a louvered hood or hood with a scoop. Also this may be a conspiracy theory but that engine definitely overheated but there was no sign from the gauge it went above normal. (Mine is ‘14 F10 M5 on 2nd engine).

    I appreciate your comment. I went with 2016 550 RWD M sport. M5 is just too much for city driving.

    And what about a 535i? You can get it to +400 hp with $1500... And it sounds very good with a custom exhaust (obviously it's not a V8...).
