Since quite some time I'm already modifying the Styling 5s to 3-piece with stepped outer lips in various sizes. What always bothered me was the plastic center cap of those rims. I already found a way to change the centers in a way that they can take a real full alloy BBS RS style hex nut with BBS logo badge. But still a plastic cover
Now I finally found a solution to this as well and beginning of next year I'll modify the rims of my 850 (currently on winter wheels) and get rid of the plastic I might even convert a set of 18" Style 5s and will have the only REAL 18" BBS RS wheel world wide . The only set BBS ever built (RS285/286) was kind of a fake since they used the same center as on the 17" RS and no stepped lip either.
Some pictures below.
The 1st set I made - now running in Norway:
full alloy hex nut conversion, but still with the (modified) original plastic center cover.
The set I'm running on my 850 (still with the polished hex nut which I changed later)
10.5"x17", offset 17mm
YES, those are Styling 5s
and now my 1st prototype of a true RS modification (just glass pearl blasted and not mounted)
Stunning!
I'm debating my self what wheel buy for my euro e30 m3 which is under restoration still. I just sold my DS 90' M3 which had 17x8 all arround style 5 an dloved the way it look, except I wante something sttagered and wider.
This time I'm looking to buy a 3 piece BBS race wheel in e87 model or sort of, but I'm having hard time to reach BBS so they can make ma set.
Alternative, I'm looking some other models and I'm not sure what to pick up. I don't want another e30 m3 with RS's, isn't that unique grom long time ago, ratehr I would pick up a style 5 sttagred.
I'm also thinking to get BBS CH 17x8.5 all arround, totally opposite for the lip story, but I really like them.
Now these custom syle 5 are the shit! IS possible to make me a 17x8.5 and 17x10 for my e30 m3? I think that should be fit in the stock fenders with rolled fender work only? What ET are we looking at with these widths?
Thanks

In principle all offset are possible. But I of course try to use the original inner barrels of the RCs which saves quite some money and that means limitations.
Starting with an RC in 8x17, offset 20mm and using the original inner barrel the following is possible:
8.5x17, offset 28mm with 2.25" stepped lip
10x17, offset 11mm with 3.75" stepped lip

Huge fan of this. What's truely great is that you can tailor the offset for a particular car/look!
I want to see a set of these on an E36!
Those look amazing
Good shit
so where did you get the center nut from? i would like to do that to my style 5's

I distribute them (www.wokke.de)
But getting the hex nut is only part of the job. The Style 5 centers need to be machined and an adapter is required as well. The adapter screws into the center and then the hex nut with original BBS RS measurements screws into it. The original plastic center cover needs to be modified as well of course.
All in all not really cheap and certainly not a 10 minute job either.

Here's a question: Does splitting the Style 5's and making the 3 piece make them any lighter? I know the centers aren't forged like true RS centers are, but surely the lips and barrels must be of a high quality?
Well in any case, they look 3 times better the way you've built them!
I know this thread is super old, but I'm looking for more info on this subject. Do the RS waffle plate/lug covers fit the Style 5 centers without modifying the diameter?

modified waffle plates won't help you. You need some serious center modification plus a set of hex aluminium nuts.
I offer the full RS look to my modified 3-piece Style5s for €600,- extra whereas only the hardware (waffle plates, hex nuts and BBS logo badges) is almost €450,-

Old thread, but Nice work!
Silver centers with red BBS center cap and gold hardware would be awesome!
