Used this to have a go at polishing my car:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-Po...meguiars+drill

Did the boot lid (trunk) and bonnet (hood) first off as a practise run and very impressed

Used the red compound pads and the yellow polishing pads; used Megs compound and then Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine polish

Will have a bash at the rest of the car the next time we get a good dry spell

Very impressed though and would highly recommend it

Not exactly for the car, more for me.
Yesterday I bought a Bose Acoustimass speaker system for the garage.
My 540 and I can listen to car tunes now.

Had the tires rebalanced the first shop didn’t balance the correctly as well since I know this shop they let me know the road force numbers and put the worst wheels on the back. Based on watching the tires on the balancer I likely have at least one bent scrap yard wheel but hopefully now that the worst are on the rear most of my 75-80 vibration will go away.

I was also disappointed to see that the wiring I have to check for my left rear wheel speed sensor is behind the well. Have to rule out wiring before I blame my
    New delphi sensor from Fcpeuro.

Once the big issues are over I’ll have to see if the car is being sluggish or if it’s all in my head since I got it back from the shop and check gas mileage because I’m guessing I might be getting around 18 highway I likely need to do the vanos seals

Replaced the screen on my MK 4 board monitor. No more dead pixels. If you want to do this fix, make sure you get a Sharp lq065t9br53u as this is the OE part on our displays. Most eBay listings say that the br53u and br54u are the same. They are not. The br54u screen that I tried first was too dim.

Almost caught the 530i5 on fire. The fuel line quick disconnect somehow popped off. Engine stalled at ~55mph in 5th, no error lights. Downshift to fourth, still no throttle response. I pushed in the clutch and watched the RPMs go to zero. Pulled over, smelled gas, turned the key off and got out in a hurry.

Popped the hood, saw the entire left side of the engine bay covered in fuel, and jumped back a ways. I'm just glad none made it over to the exhaust manifold. Reattached fuel line, and it seems very secure, sooo... No idea why it popped off. Scary moment; I can go without the adrenaline for a while. Should I buy a new fuel line? I haven't ever touched it, and I have no record of fuel pump or fuel filter replacement (pressure is just fine, let me tell you; fuel was everywhere).

Dropped the subframe and pulled the oil pan. There’s a ton of those damn oil pan bolts, managed to break only one which was easy to extract. Gonna call it a night and finish up in the AM. A lift is definitely going on the Christmas wish list after this ordeal

Today I finally got the last pieces I need for my auto to manual swap, and picked up a mint sport wheel out of an x5 for $40 with the airbag.

Thanks. Me, too! Only problem in the 20 miles I've driven since is a powerful odor of petrol, as one might expect.

My hands reek of gasoline, too.

I’ve seen airplanes, cars, and boats lost from fires because no one had an extinguisher available.

I️ know this one seems expensive, but it WORKS (Halon is very good) and is super compact (2” x 8.5”), made of aluminum and weighs 1/2 lb. Has a 12 year shelf life. I️ keep one in the cabin of my airplane and one in each glovebox of my cars.

Get it and you’ll have peace of mind at hand.

I've got one of those small Halon extinguishers in my trunk.
Hope I never have to use it on my car.
Good to have even if you need to use it on another car you see going up in flames.

Yep. I need to get it painted in gloss black so it matches the Hamann spoiler on the front.

That’s the typical scenario Jim. You’ll be the only person with one for others but will probably never use it for yourself. I’ve gone through two of them that way for roadside fires I’ve driven up to by chance.

Having it in your trunk guarantees you’ll never have a fire yourself, LOL!

Same with all the spare parts and sensors I carry in the spare tire well, never have had to use them.

I have one in the trunk, I'd like one in the cabin. Especially after having a new OEM FSU melt/burn up.

I need to look at brackets I guess.

    Cheers
    Mat

edit: just received an order from ECS Tuning that's missing parts, just my f'n luck! Now I have to wait until 1am AUS time to catch their live chat to tell them them it puts me back another 2-3weeks.
    Pissed off is an understatement.
