Active C38 Stage 2 Dyno, beats Active claims!

    Hey everyone,
So I know alot of people have asked me whether I've dynoed the kit yet, and I've received numerous PMs about it. So I can finally say I've got it as of a couple hours ago. It was the 1st obd1 kit shipped by active, so we actually didn't know what the power output would be. I was expecting it to be lower than the 377whp Active claim (I guess I was hoping for at least 340whp), first because it's the 3.0L and their number was on a 3.2L plus OBD1 manifold. Second, because I chose to have the head surfaced and add a 0.080 mls headgasket and arp headstuds for engine safety. This dropped compression to around 10.3 from 10.5, even though the kit is made for stock compression. Finally, I try to have realistic expectations and therefore assumed the Active number would be the best possible scenario and that on a real customer car the number would actually be lower. Low and behold, the car produces 387whp, and 296wtrq. Furthermore, it's making 75% max torque by 3k rpm. The car, other than the mls hg, arp studs, 96+ valve retainers, and a stewart waterpump is completely stock.

Their readout was accidentally set to STP conversion rather than SAE, so the scale on the chart is off. I called back to get the actual peaks and typed them in on top of the chart. They save the files so whenever I get a chance I can stop by to get the corrected readout and the run file. Needless to say I'm very happy. The shop was an asian tuner shop, but the guy running the car said he's seen "these german cars" just keep making more power as you start pushing them and they get hotter, so providing it was ok with me he wanted to do each run immediately after without letting the car cool down. So I said that was fine. I have a video that sounds pretty good because I used a seperate recording mic plugged into the camera, but I don't have time to upload it now. I'll try to do so this weekend.

    Rich air and clear skies,
    Austin

considering that was done today in the north east with 40 some degrees and it is in STD correction your SAE (which is what you need to have to compare) will be lower. but looks good and stout anyway.
do you even know what a plethora is?

that's cool it barely broke 50 here in jersey. and i see it says STD at the top next to CF: and also at the bottom. looks like the SAE was added in after i originally looked at it. those are AWESOME #'s and kudos. have fun with it and be safe.

Drew they were there when you first posted but I think you read too fast, maybe it says something about how you drive You're right, the chart is an STD printout. I called them back to get the SAE numbers, but I wasn't about to drive back just to get the SAE print out, so I just typed the SAE numbers in myself.

Very nice numbers for that kit! I have read such low numbers from other members with A/A products that it has recently made me question their claims even more. I very happy to see that your setup is making very stout/strong numbers. Are you using their OBDI software as well? Great job man once again!

Thanks guys. I'd like to get the car to the strip to see how fast it actually is now. Although I've never dragged before and would like my first time to be at one of the private meets, and it's hard to fit those into my schedule, so I don't know if it'll be anytime soon.

In regards to other mods, water/meth injection would help, as mentioned. The first mod that comes to mind for me though would be the exhaust. Not only am I running the complete stock exhaust, but the stock exhaust is more restrictive on the 95 cars. I know Marco would like to see me run a full exhaust such as the AA race exhaust to see if it puts the car over 400whp. You could also use a pulley that puts out about 2 more lbs of boost. With the power the car has now I don't really have any immediate interest in trying to get more though. The 235 tires are the same ones that came on the car in 95, so the only other main priority for now is new wheels and tires to actually put down the power. I'm leaning towards staggered csl reps with the new dunlop z1's.

Yep, this is with the obd1 software. I just popped my stock chip out and stuck their chip in.

Great #'s. I know i was 1 of the many pming you about your setup. Btw with a custom pulley i was told the c38 can make 14 psi. What other mods do you have on your car besides the kit itself?

How much boost in your kit? Im impressed with that trq curve!!!!!!! YOu just dont usually see these things peaking at 6800 rpms! Must feel pretty amazing.

Jon..Austin has no other mods except "slightly lower compression" ( ~ 10.3 to 1)..I am working on that!!
He seems pretty satisfied for now......

Austin is a top-shelf guy, I am real glad for him, that he is super-satisfied with his kit....Tuning right from the git-go, spot on.....no issues.....

13 RWHP away for 400 RWHP on ~10 lb boost...Austin has no boost gauge..

do you think if his compression was 10.5-1 that it would have made alittle more power? Hmmmm another 3-4psi without cams this thing could make maybe another 25-30whp(without water/Al injection). Sounds like the c38 can make some big power.

Jon..I would think the compression ratio did not hurt his power...maybe hurts a hair down low..
with 3-4 more lb of boost ( Stg 3, which I could do some AA arm twisting, I bet )
    Would add ~ 40-50 RWHP to that...and ~ another 30-35 RWT....
at 14 on Austins car, I would fully expect to see...420-430 RWHP and 320-330 RWT.....and the tune would probaly just need a tweak from 5000 on to 7000 RPM, with some more fuel....

Of course, he would need to get his new clutch in there, and a little exhaust would be nice too....

    I dunno...450 RWHP is pushing it on a 3.0 with a centri..Hard enough for a 3.2 to get there....500 RWHP? I say NO WAY....
But I would love to be proven wrong...
