I did 4 runs this day at Action Meet - Mantorp Park - Sweden.
The first run a ran 10.99 then I gave a little more on the launch control and ran 10.52 & 10.51
I decided to give at a little more again & ran 10.44 :-)
This is a full weight car with everything in it (even the orig. toolbox is full)
As far as I can find documented, this is the quickest E39 in the world.
The previous E39 record was 11.28 in the 1/4 mile. http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2108270-Worlds-quickest-and-fasted-1-4-mile-E39
So the first E39 to break into the 10's
Hopefully I can get it into the 9's with some more adjustments & seat time :-)

Mercedes Amg transmission 722.6 (NAG1)
M5 rear
Sweet! That is a fantastic 60 ft for that type of a setup. Have you done anything to your rear suspension or M5 diff to set it up for drag racing?
Thanks :-)
I think the 60 ft can be done a little faster with some more tuning on the launch control. But I'm very pleased with this 60 ft no doubt.
The rear is stock m5, some oem dampers with aftermarket lowering springs. The camper is set to 1.5 (it couldn't get closer to zero)

How did you choose to go with that transmission?
Nice work.
How do you have your trans controller setup? Is it getting some information from your engine controller?
That's sweet! I'm interested in reading all of the details you are willing to type!!
Just general curiosity about pretty much everything having to do with your powertrain and how you control it. So, engine to transmission adaptation method, ECU, TCU, and communication between them. Plus anything else you would like to tell!
The engine is controlled by Ecumaster's EMU stand alone EMS, it's really a good and user friendly unit, I have nothing bad to say about it & there's a lot of support on them (Have tried HKS f-con pro, AEM, ProEfi on my previous cars. So not my first ems)
The transmission is controlled by a plug and play unit for the 722.6 / NAG1
Purchased here ofgear.dk
It only need tps, map, rpm, speed signals (rpm & speed are optional because you can settle with the info from internal speeds)
This unit will make the 722.6 / NAG1 tranny shift really really fast and firm & because it have a map sensor you can set it up to only shift hard when the car is on boost (how hard on what boost is up to you) and there is also a manual function witch is also really good and fast. I have the stock Bmw auto shifter with the manual shifting to the left and paddles in the steering wheel, with both working.
In the video I shift gear manually because I haven't set the auto on full throttle up yet.
I made an adapter plate between the engine and gearbox & modified the Toyota flexplate to fit the Mercedes converter ( so it's easier to order a custom stall converter )
Any 722.6 / NAG1 transmission is useable and really strong, the MB's should be better than the US ones, because the clutches are made in Germany & the US ones are from China from what I can read. But if it's from a turbo diesel or a srt8 it should be fine I guess. Those diesels are torque monsters.

Thanks Danny, that is great info, and now I have some reading to do about that trans and ofgear.
Do you happen to have any pics of your adapter plate or flexplate modifications?

Danny, it seems there are lots of those 722.6 transmissions over here too. Which version are you running (722.6xx)?
That's the trans used in the newer chargers/challengers and jeeps. I have talked to someone at the track with one in a jeep SRT8 that was running mid 10's. From what I have read on them they are pretty stout in stock form but they are extremely expensive to upgrade once that limit is reached. If your looking for more power than what a stock unit can handle a 4L80e might be a more ecconomical choice.

To the OP, I love the car! Would like to see some more details and pictures if you have them.
Yes there's a lot of models
Mine is a 722.636 if remember correctly:-)
But a 320cdi is making over 800Nm when chip/ecu tuned and have no problem holding the power.

But how much can the stock handle before it needs an upgrade?
The jeep srt8 is a really heavy car so it's harder for the tranny.
But so is a SL, S, CL AMG & they are producing 8-1000 Nm stock
If they need to get upgraded it can be done fairly easy.
The 4L80e from what a can read supposed to be extremely strong, but haven't had any experience with it because I'm living in Denmark/Europe they are not so common here.

Regarding pictures
Let me se what I have, or else I can take some when I have the opportunity.
I completely understand using locally available parts! I just meant that tptrsn might be better off with something that is more available in the states. I really like this build. It looks like the 722.6 is pretty compact as well. It must fit in the tunnel pretty well? What kind of car did yours come out of? Was your trans controller plug and play or did you have to reverse engineer the valve body?
In stock form a 4l80e will handle about 700 ft lbs, which is about 950 nm. They are extremely common here and cost about $300 in used condition, and can be rebuilt with about $250 in parts. With about $1000 in upgraded parts that you can install at home they will handle 1000 ft lbs, which is about 1350 nm. For a few thousand dollars you can buy one that will handle 2000 HP with a transbrake. A 4l80e is a overdrive version of a TH400 which is a non electronic 3 speed which dates from the 60's. The TH400 is the most popular drag race transmission here. They are so popular you can build a brand new one with 100% aftermarket components. I am working on making an adapter to install one in my car now.

It fit perfect in the tunnel no mods needed.
My tranny is from a clk 55
The controller is plug and play only a few signals needed. The engineer behind this controller build his own because he wasn't full satisfied with the PCS TMC 2000 he installed in his car at first.
Paramount upgrades the nag1 over there.
We have a guy here turbobandit.com upgrades them here, but haven't been a issue yet.
The 4l80e sounds like a good and safe choice over there.

Thats a pretty good deal for a 1200 hp capable trans!

The controller is pretty fairly priced to
http://turbobandit.com/Mercedes-Tran...7226controller
I think this would be pretty popular here if somebody made adapters for these to bolt to a S50.
Good info in here, thank you both!
The 80e has always been my wishlist trans if I wanted an overdrive auto that can handle a lot of abuse, and it probably still is because of how cheap and available they are here, PLUS they can be controlled nicely and very cheaply by MegaSquirt2. However, I am very intrigued by the 722.6 now, and I've been reading up on it.
