    Unhappy I totaled my 740iL!

This shows some images from an accident that happened to me on April 28, 2005 at around 11:30PM while traveling on 101 Ventura freeway. It was caused by a after collision sideways stopped vehicle in the fast lane.

All this happened while I was eastbound on 101 in Canoga Park late at night. I was in the second lane from left. I did a lane change to the fast lane. I was traveling at almost X mph when in seconds all I could see was a black car sitting sideways right in front of me. Faster than I could say Oh $hit!

The traffic was light, but that freeway is very dark. Even that wouldn't be that big of a problem like when you add an incoming traffic and a little valley on the freeway. Meaning I got blinded, plus my headlights were pointed little bit downhill so if there is an object on the road you will not see it untill you start goin up again. But I'm not talking about a big valley. I'm talking about few deegres difference.

Anyway there was already a 3 car accident. No one placed any flares, warning triangels, warning lights or even try to wave from further distance. So here I am coming at almost X mph and in front of me is a black Mustang sitting sideways in the lane. Like I already mentioned faster than I could say Oh $hit! I blasted in to that car at over X mph. Right next to the divider there are two young guys standing by they're damged vehicle. Of course they almost got a heart attack when my car hit that Mustang right next to them. My right front end went inside of the Mustang and I was dragging the car in front of me for about 500 feet. From my point it was unbelivable how everything worked together. I'm wearing a seatbelt, holding the steering wheel at 2:45, the airbag blows out and my 740iL is on the best way to save my life. The airbag felt like someone would slap my face. Anyway I came to a stop, I remove my seatbelt, opened the door with absolutely no problems and walked away. I can tell you that it was a great feeling.

All I can say that those 2 guys driving an Acura Legend, the 1 guy driving that Mustang, and 1 Mexican girl driving (I have no idea what) with no license, no insurance or registration are lucky they did not stand somewhere close when I flew in to that Mustang.

And I am also one lucky guy, because I could never live, knowing that I killed 4 people.

This is a warning for you guys. Dont drive your Bimmers fast! Enjoy them and enjoy your life.

    In memory of bmwtransport's 1998 BMW 740iL.

This is the Mustang that was sitting sideways in the lane.

Thanks guys. I'm very happy to be here alive. But the 7 is amazing. The A pillars did not even bend. I'm pretty sure you could survive a crash in this car at speeds way passing 130 mph. But it also depends the way that accident ocures.

    Sorry to hear about it.

I would recommend that you edit the reference to how fast you believed you were travelling unless it's already on some official document

Glad to see you are ok. Its crazy how life teaches you lessons for the things you think are no big deal (excessive speeding). Im sure this will slow you down for a while if not for good. I have had some friends go threw the same sort of lessons in life. I have learned from there mistakes and sold the fastest thing in my life But again glad to see you and every one is ok.

PS. arn't you glad you bought that 740 over that other car you were looking at!

I know it was in 100% condition. But there are plenty of BMW's out there.

    Drive safely.

Haha I just figured like every one else buying a car you most likely tossed arround 2 or 3 different cars before you set your heart on "the one"

    Wow... holy crap man...

It's good that you aren't all worked up about losing your car because that is all it is, a car.

Glad to hear you are fine.

Good luck with insurance and the police.

Oh man always wear your seatbelt. I tell you if I wouldn't have that seatbelt on I would be in the windshield.

Did the police come out and determine how fast you were going? Is there any possibility you could get ticketed, fined, arrested? If so...I'd remove how fast you were going.

for a 100 mph collision, the 7 seems to have held up extremly well imo

what did the police have to say when they showed up?
I would imagine someone would be getting ticketed....
