I'd settle for being able to turn off different warning tones/bells.
What year do you get? Mine doesn't look or feel ten years old. I wanted the aluminum body to avoid the rust here in the rust belt, and when I crawled under it to check out the frame I was I surprised it was so clean you could eat off it.
Did you notice something with your insurance rates when you insured it? My brand new $62,000 Tacoma's rates were only half of what State Farm wants for this truck and it's ten years old and not even worth a third as much. I checked a few other companies and they were all more. I just don't get why it's so much unless it's the height and weight affecting the liability if yo do damage to a Tesla or something..
A great ending is all you'll see..

I downloaded FORSCAN on my Windows 11 laptop for my 2007 Shelby, mostly because I'm missing a key and apparently it can be used to program a new key with the PATS. I didn't go that far, but I did plug it in to make sure it connects. Seems to work fine.
I use FORSCAN on the Mazdas. Our family has a bunch of gen1 3s and it does a nice job. Made several keys with it too.
Forscan let me disable most warnings on my truck, at least the ones I wanted to disable. It's worth installing it and trying anyways imo.
Mine is a 21, my employer started offering a vehicle allowance so I took it as an opportunity to get into something I wouldn't otherwise buy... I've never had a car payment in my life lol but since they cover it (and provide a gas card) I said why not.
Has the max tow package which is the one thing I wasn't looking for - makes the rear sit up pretty high. I'll probably get some drop shackles in the rear to even out the take a bit. I'll share a picture later.
My insurance is pretty reasonable but I also have to have commercial usage listed on the policy as well as specific coverage. But a big part of insurance cost is definitely the ability to do damage to others so a bigger, heavier car as you note - will always cost more to insure. The likelihood of getting in an accident is also considered - mine has tons of safety gizmos which the insurance company factors into the rates too.
Thanks. I'll download it and try it out. Anyone have a link to one that they think it's carrying marlware?
It just seems so odd, less than 1000lbs difference, the lighter car being a 62k car, and a 10 year old car less than 1/3 of that cost.. and the latter has rates twice as much. Crazy. Oh well, it's a nice truck and I love driving it. Did you get the V8? I wanted nothing to do with ecoboost, if I did it would have very low miles and i'd plan on trading it in before all their special problems normally start. Seriously, I can't believe how much truck and how nice it is.. for what I paid. The guy kept it very nice. I wish I had his name and address, I'd send him a thank you note.
A great ending is all you'll see..

Part of the insurance rates are also related to the repair costs of your vehicle, so the aluminum bodied F150's do cost more to insure because aluminum is a lot harder to fix than steel.
Forscan can be downloaded here: https://forscan.org/
Mine has the ecoboost twin turbo V6. The ecoboost for the 21+ actually upgraded the previously common failure items, notably the cam phasers. And the 21+ Coyote introduced cylinder deactivation and I don't think that's going to be a huge issue but at the same time, it's a new technology without substantial road test time. For your generation I definitely would have gotten the Coyote because that generation Coyote was immensely more reliable than the ecoboost.
This is mine
Definitely very nice trucks. I have a ton of windshield time with my job, so being in a truck with some comfort features is really nice. Mine even has bluecruise, so it's self-driving on the highway, which eliminates a lot of driver fatigue. And vehicles have to be approved to be part of the vehicle allowance program and a used BMW was definitely not going to cut it (nor would I really want to be "that guy" at a job site...)
I'm mostly a Chevy guy at heart, so was originally shopping for Silverados. But it was a pretty big purchase so I did a ton of research before hand and found out the F150 not only has a lot more comfort/luxury options but the engines are also much more reliable. I think they are far and away the best trucks of this generation though I do hope GM steps it up for the next gen.
Got the clutch I my brothers c5 corvette swapped out for an ls7 replacement. Clutch was completely fried, assuming pervious owner as my brother has driven stick forever and not put that many miles on this car. Found a tick master cylinder (free 350$!) That had already been installed. That was a plus. Rebuilt the torque tube that was being held on with the worlds most aggressive snap ring. All is good now.
In 540 land I am just trying to accrue money to wipe things off of the list.
I have procured a steering box already.
Things I need to buy are rear subframe mounts, and im debating on turning some sleeves to mount ball joints on the front control arms. After the monoballs the next weakest link was discovered.
Still need paint, haven't done that yet
Trying to peice together an MCS damper setup, and there is a low chance (but still a chance) in going to get a set of very nice 4 piston calipers for free. Long story. I believe they are used on stock cars. Not really planning on much there but if I get the opportunity from a good friend of mine cleaning out a scratch and dent warehouse they have I just may be able to find something that works. With the appropriate adapter I can mill out.
Managed to make the deans list this year for engineering, never even considered that as an option. Was pretty proud of myself there.

Drilled out my s62 reinforcement plates this morning, engine going on a stand hopefully tomorrow. All parts besides rod bearings have been ordered, and I took the week off from work to get to busting knuckles. Hope to have this s62 into the m5 and the current m5 drivetrain getting ready to tear down to put in the wagon by July 4th. Don't know if I will keep the m5, it has too many options I won't/don't use/like (rear shade, full extended leather, window shades etc...), might sell after returning it to original condition, I hate black cars, my current daily and the m5 are both black, I need more color/weirdness in my life

The twin turbo version? I looked this morning what it would cost to replace the complete engine assembly from Ford.. a 460hp version complete with the harness and ECU is under 10k.. as nice as the rest of the truck is, if the engine blew tomorrow I'd just put a new engine in.
Good that they've fixed the issues because their rep wasn't good for awhile. For me it would always be the Coyote because I have a fair amount of time on that engine and I believe its the best engine Ford has made since the 2V Triton's. You have to change the oil though, that's why it took me 8 months to find one where the guy changed his oil at half the recommended intervals.. seems we're a dying breed..
Its funny how similar our trucks look. Much rather have your color.. 7 years apart and you'd almost have to sit htem side by side to pick out the visual differences. The one thing I miss from the Tacoma.. is the adaptive cruise. When I found out FOrd had Bluecruise I added it to my list to look for.. and quickly learned they're out of what I was willing to pay. I set my limit at 25k and got out the door for 17,400.. (add another 900 for the take-off's, 600 for the complete struts and shocks, and 300 for the console safe and that's the entirety of my investment) With the number of miles I drive I figure I have another 15-20 years left it in as a conservative estimate if I just change the oil and keep it up.
Your wheels look very very similar to the ones I replaced. They look better on your truck, with mine it was just too much chrome. But you have the black bumpers too.. I have chrome and they're big..
That back seat is huge. My wife stretched out on it the other day and took a nap while I went in for a medical appointment. I'd have to bend my knees, she can stretch straight out.
Ford has really dialed them in..

A lot or work and money for a truck I only need to haul the occasional engine or stuff back and forth from storage.. but what really got me was the dogs. They missed going to the park. They'd run out and sit by the rear door of the E39 like I'd really let those two hair monsters in my pristine black interior.. but they let me know they missed their trips and a vet visit was coming up and the wife won't let them in her SUby.. so a preemptive buy was in order..
A great ending is all you'll see..

The final test to see if the oil reservoir replacement solved the start up rattle.. let it sit for four full days. It started up as quietly as you could hope for.. drove it around for a few hours and enjoyed the heck out of it. Sad, because that was the last thing I wanted to take care of before passing it on to a new owner. I originally bought this from my son because he was in a spot and I lusted after it anyway.. with the agreement he could buy it back at any time. A few years and a few thousand dollalrs and a lot of little things fixed.. he wanted it back. So it went to him and in the meantime I started gearing up looking for either a touring or an M5. Then he wants me to sell it for him, decides he doesn't want it. I've already mentally moved on to a new toy, I need something to fix and tinker with and this car is done. It might be one of the best sorted 2003 540i/6's out there. Its currently in the garage to detail and get ready to take pictures and then figure out where I'll put it up for sale. Just glad the rattle is fixed, I hate leaving a job incomplete..

Congrats man! That's a huge accomplishment
Yeah the ecoboost in mine is the twin turbo V6. I hardly ever get it in boost, but when I do it really gets up and goes. I think it's 0-60 is low 5 seconds. There are tunes to bump up the power pretty substantially too. If I had a Coyote, I'd probably slap a Whipple on it and make ...I don't remember offhand what they make out of the box but I know 700hp is pretty easily achievable.
Your gen and my gen definitely look very similar, it was a minor evolution although I do believe Ford said every body panel changed. The most obvious difference at first glance is the "crease" at the bottom of the side doors, on yours its straight across, mine angles up at the front and down at the rear.
Color on mine is Smoked Quartz Metallic, only available in 21 and first production batch of 22. I think yours is Radiant Red, I'm picky about colors and Smoked Quartz and Radiant Red were really the only two colors I was considering.
I actually took mine on a "moderate" difficuly trail earlier today, had a ton of fun, love how capable it is - did most of it in 2WD but there were some sections I needed 4WD to get up steep hills with loose rocks and some sections I kicked on the electronic locking rear diff to get through some deep sand. I'm going to be looking for some Tremor take-off wheels because those came with nice knobby offroad tires. Then install a skid plate and take it on some harder trails. Maybe PPF too to protect the paint from "Arizona pinstriping"
Does yours have the fold down storage under the rear seats? On mine you can fold the rear seats up, and theres a storage bin under the seats that folds flat and you end up with tons of flat space in the rear. My dogs love it.
The newer ecoboosts are pretty good, I've done a couple cab off jobs for the older trucks, but it was always the first gen engines. Cam phasers, turbo coolant seals, turbo replacement. Newer ones allegedly fixed these issues and i haven't seen problems with a newer one yet.

Mine is actually Ruby Red, but the pop from the ceramic coating makes it look a bit like the Radiant Red.
I do like the electronic rear diff.. so far it seems strong and with the Wild Peak AT-3 tires it goes through sand well. Not the right time of the year for mud and snow but that's coming. I hope to grab some skid plates off a FX-4 at the wrecking yard for some cheap protection.
I find that once you put the trans in sports mode the Coyote moves the truck really well. I'd like a whipple.. 700-800hp would be fun and the engine seems in good enough shape to handle it well, no evidence of blow by or other wear. I'll watch MP, I'm sure someone will be selling a kit they took off their F150 after wrecking it. I so wonder what a 700hp 4wd locked diff trip down the strip would be like.
A great ending is all you'll see..

I'll add to the pick up truck posts. My 2018 Sierra Denali Ultimate. Replaced my 2014 Sierra I had for 90 days.
New truck is so much nicer. Totaled out a Hooptie, they got a failure to yield.
My oldest shows up and asked "Are you okay ? " I said yeah. He goes "Look like someone is getting a six pack and cruising Facebook Marketplace tonight."
Did a smoke leak test and found a nice crack in the valve cover, at least i know where it's coming from now![]()
To find a valve cover, or limp it along with some cold weld..........

Zipped off the heads today on the spare s62. For 220k miles, it looks very nice. Modern oil, regular changes and a California climate will do wonders for the internals of an engine. Needs a good cleaning before going on the engine stand, but that's a tomorrow adventure

Interest location for the oil cooler. Can’t do much cooling there.
It's a heat exchanger, it has two ports for coolant and two for oil.
I bought a set of used "Decked" drawers for mine yesterday, a great price of $500 considering he installed them too. Things like my truck related tools, small compressor, tow straps, and whatnot along with my medical kits will go in one drawer, the other drawer will stay available for range gear on range days.
I ordered one of these for inside secure storage under the back seats. These are made of pretty stout steel. Perfect for the safe storage of pew pew's when I stop to eat on the way to or back from the range. I put their center console safe in and it's pretty thick, but I've had one of these under rear bench and several of their other products (started buying from them in the mid-80's) and they've all been overbuilt and nice to own.

I did a bit of a deep clean in my console area, and pulled out the MID, HVAC panel, button module and the frame/bezel since there was some crud in hard to reach spots. While they were out, I opened the HVAC module and cleaned out the cabin temp sensor/fan. A previous owner had a dog, and while you would never know by looking at the upholstery, there is quite a bit of hair behind panels and in the temp sensor fan.

I'm also diagnosing some AC issues. I might start a thread once I get more info. Cold air is coming only from the driver side vents (I've read that this could mean low refrigerant, and cold air will be biased to driver side in this case). Air to other vents isn't hot, it's just not cool. Sometimes there is no cold air at all. Outside air temp is indicating correctly. I occasionally get an aux fan error on INPA from the IHKA module, as well as some latent heat codes (12, 33, 46), but it cleared itself yesterday right as I was viewing the error codes. There is also an aux fan error when scanning the DME only when the HVAC is acting up (I forget the code). Normally the DME is error free. I read a bit about the aux fan, and it seems the control is not quite as simple as a relay, and there are multiple relays (?), a PWM signal depending on some other parameters like coolant temp, and a signal from the IHKA panel. I also have the document linked in this thread.
