I have a 1995 bmw e 34 540i with a check control on my dash. It started when my son was working on the alternator and he forgot to disconnect the battery. It made contact with the chassis and now the transmission doesn’t not work. I was planning on a 6 speed swap but in the mean time use the car with the auto trans. Is there something that I can do or is the transmission dead.

What message does the check control show?
Did you already check all fuses in engine bay and under the seats?
Also important is to check the 2 fusible links under rear seat passenger side, see here the details https://twrite.org/shogunnew/files/E...s_compiled.pdf
Wiring diagrams are here https://shark.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/

Sorry for the wait. I checked every fuse except for the fusible links—I didn’t know those were there. How do I check the message from the Check Control system? And thanks for the reply
check control is explained from page 38 https://www.shiftbmw.com/car/1987-19...owners-manual/
