e93 with a history of water intrusion and damage
A month ago it stalled after a 30 min drive while I was in slow city stop-and-go driving, and showed a symbol of the car up on a lift.
Mechanic said fault codes 6292 and 6293. Replaced the battery due to the battery being undersized and end of life.
During short drives around town while I regained trust, I had no problems so I thought the battery solved the issue.
But the other day again after 30 min of driving in slow in-city driving it stalled again. This time no fault codes.
Mechanic said he hit the fuel tank with a rock while it was stalled and it restarted. Mechanic did visual inspection of control unit and saw no water damage. Mechanic says replace the fuel pump.
I'm still really skeptical because of the history of water damage, and I've heard from other mechanics that the control unit is far more frequent a fix on these cars than the fuel pump itself.
I thought I would ask this group to see if anyone has any strong suggestions. I can't afford to fix both.
Thank you.
It could be the EPKM module (fuel pump module) over heating. Once the module cools down, the car will start, but 30 minutes later it will over heat and the car won't start. It happened to me on a highway. I called a tow truck and right when the tow truck was pulling up, I did a last attempt to start the car and it started. I was 4 miles form home so I made it.
