    Cig Lighter Socket Shorted

    I dont know how, but after two fuses I pulled lighter socket… anyone see this before? There is no damage visible on socket!

    Due to overwhelming response… and possibly of someone else finding this issue… here is the result.

    apparently BMW cig lighters use a low heat insulator on backside of the pin housing. If overheated, to prevent thermal runoff from lighter, the insulator will melt. It’s slight when it occures. There is a small tab that will then short to ground and pop the fuse. See photo for example.

    B happy. The “MW” is for expletive.
