Hey, all. Not sure if there's much that can be done in this situation, but figure it's worth a shot in case anyone's been through this or has a connection.
My parents have a 2018 BMW 530e xDrive. It's the first year of that plug in hybrid, to my knowledge. Only 52k miles in that time and nary a problem.
Recently, they tried to start it up, only to have drivetrain malfunction and power supply error warnings come up. They had the car towed into the dealership, who said the KLE and EME had both failed. The cost is $9k, but the dealership said not to fix it because they had a previous car with KLE failure that led to transmission failure as well. So because they think there's likely more lurking underneath the surface, they said to just move on.
BMWNA didn't want to get involved with a goodwill repair, I'm told. It's out of warranty, and the 8 yr battery extended warranty didn't apply.
So what's there to do now? Just buy a new car and try to get the dealership to pay us a little something for the dead car? We've always owned cars for at least 15 years, so a complete failure at less than 7 years seems shocking.
