Considering replacing my bumpers with Euros. I don't intend to enter a discussion on the look, since I believe it comes down to personal preference.
I do like the look of the original, so wanted to switch.
A couple of questions:
Are the replicas worth it, or better to find originals that have been restored?
Any experience with people who've done it or attempted it, warnings, etc?
Most importantly, what is a fair price for a set?
Thank you all!
The biggest hurdle to doing Euro bumpers correctly is putting in the new sheet metal in the back. In my case, those metal panels were the worst part of the car anyway so it was a win-win. And since I was doing bodywork anyway, I took the opportunity to delete the side markers. The second biggest hurdle is finding a reasonably-priced set of bumpers. I bought mine from eBay classifieds in Germany, and had a friend ship them over to me. They are not in perfect shape, but neither is the rest of the car. If I were to convert another car then I would think about the stainless steel aftermarket bumpers, but I have read that people have problems with fitment using those. Not sure if there is only one place that makes them, or if you have a choice.
I agree - The rear valance sheet metal on the US cars needs to be changed to the Euro valance, otherwise the rear looks really bad. Euro bumper with US valance is a bad combo,
Wallothnesch is no longer producing the patch panel for the lower part of the valance. Or just out of stock.
i personally dont mind the euro front w/ a US rear. the lines work still. oem and ebay germany is the way to go! i found the right piece in AUS, had ti shipped to a friend there and he shipped it to me in the states
