Personally, I enjoy a nice cruise the majority of the time... However there are those days when I'm feeling a little more excited than usual and it creeps into my driving .
For the most part, I step on the gas 1/4 and shift around 2.5-3.5 rpms. I feel it's good for the car to wind out a little in first or second to around 3.5k from time to time. And then obviously, probably like once every 2-3 weeks I'll step it up a notch and drive it like I stole it.
I wish I could say I drove it aggresively more often but 93 is $4 around here and it is a farily old car.
Dunno, just sitting at home relaxing - wondering what you guys had to say.
Cheers
I'm kinda wondering whats appropriate too.
I try and give my 40 a good rise to 4k rpm once a day, but otherwise I generally cruise pretty lazily.
three redlines a day keeps the mechanic away
The car is going to break down regardless. Might as well enjoy the drive.

+1. I drive hard when I'm within 50 miles of home, hoping that if it does break, it'll be when I'm near my garage and not when I'm 100+ miles away.
Old or not, it's a BMW. These cars where made to be driven decently hard. I don't feel too bad about giving it some now and again.

You have to blow it out once in a while or what's the point of owning one.
I dive easy in traffic but when it's open I drive it like I stole it!

this is how i look at it from my perspective.
If you buy an M5 and don't drive it hard its like paying a hooker for a hug.

Yeah I love to let her loose every once in a while. Sometimes more often than not
Usually when things are going through city streets i go cruising with it, almost relaxing driving, i usually put a 5th on it to watch the consumption needle below that 10 liter, no more than 2000 rpm but once i get it on the open road, i like to give it a hard treatment and hear what happens above 3000 rpm with a great engine symphony once i go 2nd till gets on the red line and 3rd and up we go...
Its worth every cent i spend on petrol and its a big beast once its woke up!
It is my daily driver but I often drive it like I stole it during my 50 mile round trip commute. This was one of the reasons why I purchased the I6 over the V8.
Pretty hard...
Thanks!

My middle name is WOT and my first is Pedal2dametal...
I bought a BMW (specifically 540) because of it's high performance and the 5'er has performed well for 75k with me pushing the entire time. If ya wanna drive like Granny (not Cali Granny, she'll blow your doors off), get a Prius and you'll be happy.

I drive faster than the traffic around me, while only an I6 it still has enough torque to weave through the daily commuters.
