    Question Racing stripes ?

Has anyone put racing stripes on their Z3 roadster. For some reason I want some on my topaz-blau metallic with blue & black interior and blue top. There are many options.... size, color, placement.Any thoughts? Pic's.Thanks.

I would probably stay away from stripes personally. Maybe the motorsport flag type decal.

Not sure where I saved these from, but I liked the look. Seems like it would look best on monochrome colors though.

Thread about this a year or so ago....seems like Most stripes are hideous but i remember there being one from that thread that was cool....seems like racing stripes are ricey and more for the jdm scene than the euro scene....takes away from the class and elegance bmw's bring.....bottom line tho is its your car and if you like the way they look i say install and enjoy. As long as you keep it waxed and in the shade as much as possible you could always peel them off in a year if you begin to dislike them....vinyl that is.

Here is a link to the last discussion. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1774713 Perhaps there are some ideas to explore there.

I may be just too old, but racing strips have been popular on European and American made cars since long before the Ricer experience.

I disagree that they are "ricey" - meaning they are primarily found on asian tuner cars. Stripes are all over Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Vipers, Ford GTs, Lotus Exige/Elise/Etc, muscle cars, and so on, many from the factory. I would say that most frequently, outlandish, poorly executed racing stripes are found on "ricey" cars. The same could be said for body kits, spoilers, and graphics, yet those things aren't "ricey" in and of themselves, per se. Any poorly executed mod is ricey, IMHO.

I'm with you. It does seem that the tuner crowd does more frequently mimic higher-end features from other brands, and poorly executes the job.

Racing stripes that are oem are part of the look of a car that the manufacture puts on them! Z3 didn't come with racing stripes so there for i feel they look "added on" & ricey! Just my opinion...of corse if i see a ford gt with stripes it looks great and same applies to other exotics!

I think I said it in the other thread too, but it is my opinion our model cars do not lend themselves well to stripes, always looks... off.

    I'd say NO.

But if you're convinced on putting some stripes, maybe motorsport style would be an option (I think assimetrical as shown on picture above don't look ricer at all) or something like this:

There are rare circumstances where it can work... but it involves the right subtle touch, proper placement, and you must have the proper car color.

    Don't go slapping that M tri-stripe on a copper/orange color
