They will eliminate the check engine light when you are running without cats (track pipe or custom exhaust). They simulate the stock O2 heaters and signal. It is a single black box that simulates *both* post-cat O2 sensors, so you only need 1 per car.

Since it is currently for the e36 M3 only there was no need to package it into 2 separate enclosures. Just one box to mount - and it actually has an aluminum mounting tab instead of the cheesy zip-tie mounting that some others use.
It will have leads coming out with 2 O2 sensor connectors (pictures coming soon).

I'm interested I've got post cat o2 issues on the 328 and once that's fixed I'd swap it over to the M3 for off roading.

What's the difference between the 97 m3 sensor and the 97 328 sensor setup? same engine, same ecu both 41.1, same bosch sensors? different ecu software.
I was hoping to do the 2 step and pop them into the 328 for the moment, drive around pick up parts and then pop them into the M3, putting the M3's bosch sensors into the 328.

ECU is supposed to be different (besides software). M3 is actually MS41.2 even though it is labeled MS41.1.
I'm confident that I can produce a sim for non-M cars based on some things I've read, but I don't want to ship one out for blind testing without verifying some things with an oscilloscope first.
What code(s) related to post-cat O2s are you logging? How much driving does it take for the code(s) to come back after you clear them? Thanks.

Sounds good. When I run diagnostics with INPA I use the 41.1 US OBDII configs. Yes the software level is 41.2. I am reasonably sure that the hardware on the ecu board is the same. The 256k rom on the 801C66 siemens eeprom however is definitely different both in the 24k data segment and the remaining code segment.
The actual coding in the data segment is likely quite similar in terms of data structures but the hex locations are different. I've got a KP2000+ cable and a proper ADS cable in transit so that I can download roms off of both cars so that I can confirm this. I'm also guessing the data structures used from many of the 413 (OBDI) ecu's are similar. There are a few 41.0 (European rom definitions floating about that I'd like to see as they do not enforce the emissions standards and the diffs might be educational).
So again, as I understand it the MS41.0/1/2 programming share the same hardware platform BUT the "software segments" are somewhat different (different locations and some different functions) AND the "data segments" are somewhat different (different locations and some different data options: maps, scalars).
That said they are all BMW's and the engineers/programmers will have reused data structures, coding standards and working functions across both software and hardware platforms.
Looking forward to your results w/ the hardware testing. I've got most of the ecu pinouts from the electrical diagrams and the Megasquirt/Vems installation guides but I haven't put together a bench set up with a couple of spare ecus so that I can see what is going on.
I'm a little anxious about screwing w/ my working ecus as the M3 has VF's programming on it and the 328 is my daily driver. I need a couple of spare ecus to break.
