One step closer: M52/M54 Intake manifold conversion

Someone messaged me today about a M54 325 manifold up for grabs.

And in other news, Photobucket is ghey because they took down my picture of bewbs. It wasn't even like they were completely uncovered.

Oh, and is anything missing from this manifold? DISA valve? Anything at all?

I emailed him back about that, he said that he will send it separately. He gave me a warning not to exceed 88mph with it equipped though...

Sometime soon I hope, and dyno test it of course. I was about to take off my intake to send to Kelly to dyno yesterday, but since I plan on grabbing this, I want to keep everything equal.

No. Not at this point, but I plan on a exhaust that has a highflow cat in it. This dyno will just be an overlay of my previous run over the headers.

You going to a dyno operator who knows what he's doing this time?

I figured as much...that manifold sure makes it easy to eliminate the cat problem on the M52TU....please update when dyno'd

No. They have all proven to be idiots. I will dyno on another dyno, after all this is through, but I would like a back to back comparison. Donations?

What? This is an intake manifold. There are not cats in the manifold. On the exhaust side there is, but I did that a while ago..

that intake manifold allows you to move the cats further down the exhaust pipes rather than have them right out of the exhaust mani

Sorry friend, you are confused. When looking at you car from the front, the intake manifold is mounted on the right side of the motor, and the exhaust manifold on the left. The have nothing to do with each other in terms of replacing parts. The don't touch, and never even see each other. Kinda like an old married couple who are cheating on each other.

Before you put it on, be sure to clean out that ICV. And I would replace the oil separator and hoses while its easily accessible. Those often get gummed up and need cleaning/replacing and they are not exactly easy to get at. Just a little preventative maintenance. Search E46 forum for ICV DIY.

I guess I need some info on why's and why not's the m50 manifold can be used vs. other manifolds.

m50 mani wont bolt up to the motor in question in this thread. hes looking for a similar swap for his application.
do some more research and youll see the runners are no where close to being similar.

The OP doesn't have his model year in his sig. Is this for the M52TU- double VANOS - motors?

    Very interesting indeed..

That manifold looks just like the one on our 2.3's. Are the runners larger or what's the difference?

I have a PDF document from the BMW training materials about all of these engines. It clearly highlights what the differences are (in this case, the answer to The ZED's question is that the M54B25 manifold has 10mm shorter ram tubes and "slightly larger" diameter as compared with the M52tuB25 manifold.)

I'm not going to host this document on my website, but if someone else wants to, let me know, I'll e-mail it, and then they can host it and post the location. It is too big to attach here.

Sweet, I may jump on one of the ones for sale out there. What are you guys estimating the power gains are on this mod? 10hp? 15? 5? I'm interested in this one!

    Try to keep up guys!
Top one is stock M52tu manifold, and bottom is an M54

    Closer up

It's said the intake manifold is what gives most of the gains in the M54 vs the M52's. Turner Motorsports (or was it bimmerworld?) Race cars use this manifold (and not the 330 version, which is a tad different)

That was enough for me to grab it.
