Was driving to get some fast food around 10pm
and saw some lowered beat up civic weaving in
and out of traffic.
Traffic was light enough that I decided to teach
this idiot a lesson. My reasoning was to humiliate
him so he realizes that his car isn't a little speed
rocket.
Get to a light, and I take off in 1st gear (steptronic).
I have a dual cone intake on it and you can hear
the turbos spooling up. I guess as soon as he heard
the noise, he let off and I let up around 50mph.
Thinking I had embarrased this guy enough for him to
slow down and drive normally, I cruise along at normal
speed.
At the next stoplight he comes up and starts revving on
me.
I have built more than my fair share of raced out Hondas
(that were actually fast) so I know what one looks like
and sounds like. I figured this would be an easy kill.
Light turns green and I take off...so does he. Around 2nd
gear I'm looking in my rearview mirror for this idiot and
he is nowhere to be found. Believe it or not, he was
2 car lengths behind me. At or around 60mph I was
about 3 car lengths ahead of him and I just let up because
he was out of his power band at those speeds and it
would be dangerous to go any faster to put anymore
lead on him.
So I brake around 70mph and he pulls up along side
and I roll down my window and yell:
"What do you got" ?
He simply shakes his head and continues to rev on me.
My turn was coming up so I just shook my head.
He did have something under the hood....an educated
guess on my part would be that he had a B16 swap
with intake and perhaps headers and some fartcan
exhaust.
Although here is the thing.....I had the exact same
model car with a ZC (1.6l DOHC non-vtec engine)
in it with only intake headers and exhaust and I
know for a fact that I would have given my 535i
a run for it's money.
I'm sure he didn't have NOS on it....turbos? probably
not.
He might have had a mini-me conversion, or at the
very least a SOHC vtec motor out of the EK civics in it.
It's bothering me now that I can't figure out what he had.
I was always 2-3 car lengths ahead of him the entire race.
If his civic was stock....it would have been a lot more.
Anyone have a clue?
teaching a lesson by inducing street racing. That makes sense.
i'd bet on a d16 vtec swap altho the minime swap would be more likely.
EF's are so light, they are always something to be careful with.
