I just won myself a huge summer project!

Was playing around on the Copart site and came across a '95 750iL in Houston that has the same interior color as mine. Not a flood victim, but enough damage front and rear to total it. Interior looks really good - better than most cars at 150k - so I offered up $400 and won it.

So now, the fun begins. My car currently has virtually no options, but now I'm about to get ALL the options!
Heated front and rear seats? Check!
Rear and side window shades? Check!
    heated steering wheel? check!
leather dash and center console? check! (after trimming the dash to account for the facelift a-pillar airbags)
reclining rear seats? Check! (should be fun retrofitting that system!)
All the wood trim bits? check!
I'm even thinking about upgrading to the 750 brakes.
Finally, I'll explore if I want to switch over to the 750 laminated windows. Does it make that much of a difference in wind noise?

I'll check the compression on the motor, but I don't think I want to mess with trying to switch my car over to V-12 awesomeness. It's tempting, but I think I better stick to selling that along with the DMEs, trans, diff, and exhaust.

Anyway, I love a project, so I'm looking forward to it. I'll head down to pick up the car on Thursday.

sweet score, that will be a great project and by selling a few things you'll be getting paid to do it. way to go!

Yeah I think the V12 swap might be a step too far. But definitely put the laminated window swap on the list if they are in good condition. I have not driven a 740, but I can tell you the windows on my 750 definitely cut down on noise. If I want to actually hear the sound of my exhaust (x-pipe and muffler delete) I have to at least crack the windows - otherwise the top-end roar is nearly 50% quieter. (I still can hear the exhaust through the body of the car, but the sound that is reflected outside is really cut down by the windows).

I'm not sure, but I figure I'll have all the pieces. I'm switching door cards so that I can have the window shades, so that might be all I need. We'll see!

im basically doing all of these swaps on my 740 now, i do know for a fact the windows need the guides to account for the glass being thicker, the inside chrome strips on the door panels, and the hardware from the regulators.

That all makes sense. Basically swap the entire guts of the door.

I'm in Grapevine/Colleyville. Looks like you've done quite a few of these mods already, so I may hit you up for some advice. If you need any help on anything, let me know.

Sounds good, I remember when me and a friend pulled the glass it took us 2 hours to pull all if it. We should do a Meetup at some point, since I don't know of many in the Metroplex that is on here or the empire on FB.

Not really. I managed to partially tear my calf muscle, so I'm hobbling around in a boot. All I've managed to do so far is wash off most of the salvage yard dust and moved the floor mats and rear foot rests over to my car.

I did get the battery charged up and confirmed the car fires up and runs. Will see if anybody is interested in the drivetrain before too long.

Still taking stock at this point and figuring out what wiring will have to be transferred over to make all of the new options work.
One sad note - noticed that somebody already swapped out the c-pillar lights. These are fully plastic with no wood trim or soft mood lights. Oh well.

oh damn, sorry to hear that...if you need any help i've got nothing to do in the afternoons lmao.

as far as i know there shouldn't be too much wiring to transfer over...i might have a lead on a set of "porn" lights, i have a set but they are cracked but i'm repainting them piano black it won't matter.

Maybe legs are a problem to e38 owners... I lost an Achilles in a bike accident a few years back and then recently had a knee replacement in the other leg two years ago.... My other knee is bone on bone but I am going to let it go for as long as possible, based on this last one.
