So my speedometer stoped working a week or two ago, I was going to troubleshot it myself along with my friend to find out the problem. I haven't got to that point yet and all of a sudden the back of my car started making noises , really loud noises when i started to pull out. Then after a bit i could not even drive and it would not griped, just loud clicking sounds with no grip meaning i couldnt drive. I really think it might be the transmission , but let me know what you guys think?
Probably the diff. The speedometer gets it's signal from a sensor mounted in the diff. Maybe it broke and got all chewed up in the gears ... Oops, I mean
So i guess i can not drive it home... but i mean whats the best thing to do at this point?
diff for sure- you mustve not had any fluid in there- the diffs are pretty bullet proof. You gotta yank it out and check it out- there are plenty of DIYs on that here and on the net. Do a search.

Read the link in my Siggy, BMW forgot quite often to include loctite (as proscibed in the TIS) on the LSD Carrier Plate Bolts. (8). I found 2 '95 3.15's like that, Diffsonline has confirmed it's actually quite common on all years. The bolts back out, get crutched in the gears, bits in the bearings, loads snap heads off the remaing few holding the plate on until it shears off completely if not caught in time.
If the bolts have loctite, then yes, they are very bullet proof....
Links to some DIY's in my siggy link...

anyway, so yea thats what it def was!!
I have a couple questions... Could somone point me to the best place to find a used differential ?? Also, Will an auto diff from a 99e36 m3 fit?
And also, What is the average price of the diff. and the average price for a repair place to fix it. How much is to much to spend on this thing?
thanks!

A diff from an auto would be a very nice upgrade. A used one will run $400-$1000, depending on mileage. A rebuilt one is about $1800. Dan at Diffsonline.com is great to deal with, or find a used one here in teh for sale section.
