Whatever point you're trying to make is a moot point. You don't install a caliper with it rotated out on the bottom, slotted holes or not, ever. You install it so that it is parallel to the tangent. Your pads won't wear faster, they'll just plain be hanging off the rotor. .

Confusion FTW
indeed. Someone is certainly confused.
Josh on FCPgroton's site they list two different hardware kits - vented rotors and non vented rotors is one preferred over the other?
Also did you use brake pad shims? My old set of Volvos had them used them they go in front of the pad.
I see PBR metal master, PBR delux and Mintex pad offered. Not sure which one is better.
I took a bleeder screw off my old volvo setup and put in on my Hartge\Girling setup that you worked on.
Here is a few pics:
Difference in the pins:What does the hooked part on the right do..i forgot?
The volvo pins fit in the other set of calipers
Josh worked on them - slotting them and making the brake lines for them, and I can wait to get them on my car.

You want the vented hardware kit since your calipers are for vented rotors. That just means they're wider to fit over a wider rotor, so the hardware will be wider.
I didn't use shims, I just used a good brake caliper grease on the back of the pads and on the slides. I used the metal master pads, I'm not sure which is the best, you'll have to do your research to know what's best for you.
I have a 78 320i, and want to know if I will be able to do this with my stock master cylinder. What kind of difference did you see in your braking? can I do this conversion under 200$.
Thanks for the help guys.
I had Josh help me and make brake lines and create T-ed to the existing 323i master cylinder. He also drilled out the calipers to get them to line up just right.
I think I heard that you can use a 5 series master cylinder if you do not T, and that CJ and Josh have both "T" there brake lines. I forgot if they where using the stock 320i master cylinder.

i paid $74 for hawk hp pads and $49.00 for a pair of brembo vented rotors both new of course. $10 each for my calipers at a bone yard. $38 for my rebuild kit and you will still need some hardware. so it might be over $200 but it should be close depending on where you get your calipers. if you get the reman calipers already rebuilt then Layne is absolutely correct as there is no way you will be under $200

Where did you find the vented rotors for $49/pair? Best I've seen is $42/each.
tirerack has them for $23 a piece right now. i stopped there yesterday to save on shipping so i just had to pay tax but i believe shipping is $15. http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=P

Are you sure you got vented rotors? The link you provided were for brembo plain rotors, i tried searching on their site but they don't offer vented ones for our cars...anyhow, if you did indeed order the vented ones, can you provide me the link...that seems like a crazy good deal...thanks!
well idk about you but when i click the link i provided it takes me to 1977 Brembo plain VENTED rotors.
also the reason mine were only $49 is i just happened to be driving buy the tire rack yesterday on my way to michigan so i just had to pay sales tax.

I think you'll find that the Mazda RX7 used an ally version of the Volvo calliper should you want to save some weight.
I actually picked up some of the RX-7 calipers and Corrado g60 rotors. I plan to try a mock up when I get home this week. You will definitely need a bracket made this is not as easy a mod as the volvo calipers. I'll take some pictures this weekend to show what will need to be done. Anyone up for making some caliper adapters? Also the calipers are the ones from like 86 to 92 GLX or Turbo I believe, have that information at home. I picked up 2 pairs for 100 dollars, one set looks new.

I have been making some more enquiries and it seems they were the second generation turbo calipers but as has been said, they are not quite as easy to fit.
However, I have just seen a guy who used the Volvo calipers with the vented discs from a new shape Mini
Volvo calipers + New Mini discs which are bigger by 21mm. 255/276mm
Pads overhang on other side by 5mm. No modification made to any part on car. Except one additional brake line to feed Volvo caliper
Caliper has been attached from other side.
... and what kind of wheels?
Do the calipers, now set farther outboard, not interfere with the spokes of the wheel?

Josh, anyone,
Did you understand what he meant by "Pads overhang on other side by 5mm"
You had 7mm overhang until you slotted the calipers.
The radius of this rotor is larger by 10.5mm
By my math the ouside diameter of the rotor should extend 3.5mm beyond the pads, no?
By the picture, maybe he's talking about *inside* overhang?
Thx,
Eric P.
