07 335i e90
purchased car with 20,000 and now have 45,000
minor problems: passenger window stuck down, plastic trim wearing off (door handles, steering wheel, dash), wiper blades,
major problems: check engine light came on 3 times, dealer could not figure out what was wrong. First they reset some codes and as I drove off the lot and it came back on immediately. Then it was a faulty exhaust solenoid, and then it was another faulty solenoid.
Build Month/Year: 08/2005
Type: E90
Model: 330i
Miles: 75,000 miles
Major problem(s): When car was first built, they didnt put the bump stops in the rear causing a vibration and a chatter when going down the freeway and letting off the gas. So they inserted the bump stops in and it has come back. Air Bag sensor went bad 3 times and then finally got the recall out on it. Radio wires had a fault causing the lights on the radio to not work. got bmw to cover that. that was at about 3 years 50,000 miles give or take. Brake pads squeeled so they had to shave sensors, new pads and new rotors. Driver side mirror wouldnt look in the right spot, so they replaced the whole assembly
Minor problem(s): Door handles are peeling away,
Modifications: BBS RC's with PS2's and a Dinan Free Flow Exhaust
Car handles great but just a lot of problems

2008 335i sedan...18,000miles
Issues:Well lets see:
Burns oil, eats coolant, iDrive is always freezing up, squeaking noises from wheels while driving slow, and most recently the engine malfunction light came on. Dealer said it was a collapsed vaccum hose. They fixed it and it just came back on again...back to the dealer I go. This thing has been in the shop way toooooo much, but I do like the car. Iam trading it in as soon as the warranty is up.

2007 328xi (44k miles) - just replaced with 2009 335i
Only issue with my 328xi was had to have sunroof fixed twice (jam indicator came on putting it in limp mode). Other than that it was a solid vehicle.
2009 335 Sedan Sport
10k Miles
Brought in 5 times for squeaky/creaky doors (trying to lemon law)
Recently check engine light/Limp Mode for a misfire...they moved the coils around and sent me on my way.
Check engine light again with limp mode, said it was the injectors they replaced all off them. Sent me on my way....
Check engine light, limp home mode and engine with the half yellow triangle thing.....havent heard word what they think it is yet...possibly fuel pump....
I'm trying to lemon law this bitch....my 2007 was pretty good with the exception that I had the wastegates replaced.....

Build Month/Year: 04/2007

Miles: 15,000 miles
Major problem(s): Cylinder head, valves, cams, etc. replacement
Minor problem(s): PCV Valve/System, Coolant Levels, etc.
Modifications: Stock and is an automatic.
*I noticed a valve tick-sound over time as my aunt lives 1 mile away from me and is always at my house. She started to say that the car was losing power... i even noticed it being a passenger!!! Soon enough the car basically sounded terrible and got very loud, like a ticking time bomb... BMW previously hadn't looked into the ticking noise, but since i work at a tuning shop, i told her she should get it looked at by a dealer ASAP because it did sound like valve tick... I'm glad i did because come to find out, the whole cylinder head was basically burnt like hell... i asked my boss and he was correct to the fact that since BMW has such large intervals for maintenance... 10k for an oil change, the type of oil used is far too thin for the duration that the car will have it... BMW should choose a thicker oil so that it can deal with the engine wear better than would a thin type... The dealer's mechanics said the valves, springs, lifters, and guides and such were completely black and misshapen too... all this happened at 10,422 miles... fortunately BMW inspected the bottom end and it was unhurt... THANK GOD!!! for warranties!!! the whole cylinder head replacement cost? $4xxx+ (not sure of the exact amount, but a lot of dough nonetheless)...*

NO issues, No unscheduled maintenance
2007 E90 335i
12,800 mi
No major problems, my dealership service is the best I've had in 40 years of car ownership.
Couple of minor problems some here have also mentioned, brake noise that was diagnosed by the service manager riding with me as "glazing". They serviced them and told me to really stand on the brakes like the sports car it is. Changed my driving style to their rec and no further problems. They also did a "bulletin" update on the cpu but I'm not sure if I like the new settings. Seems a little sluggish now at standing start. Oh, also the floor mats still suck, haha!
I got my 335i xDrive with 23 miles on the clock drove it 6500 more miles and the only issue I had was had to replace the FUEL PUMP but that seems to be normal with this model.. I have a few friends that have gone through 3 before 20K miles.
I have since traded it in for a New M3.
Year: 2006
Type:e90
Model: 330xi
Miles: 47,000
Major Problems:
1. Just last night, in below freezing temperatures, and snowing, with the front defogger blasting, and the heater on high, I went to adjust my rearview mirror, and my whole windshield spider cracked from the outside where the mount for the mirror is. About a foot wide span in all directions.
2. Crappy paint job, and poor paint maintenance from the previous owner.
3. Crazy oil level sensor, tells me i have half a tank of engine oil one day, then full the next.
Minor Problems
1. Driver door wood trim is hanging off at the front, just a little.
Passenger window being stuck down seems like a major problem imo

Minor Problems: Coil went bad (under warranty) and cup holder on me. It's not an M but I couldn't buy any more "projects".
Update 1/4/10: New battery, whooping $145 bucks from Advance Auto Parts. I would be afraid to know what the dealer would have wanted.

my 2006 330i just turned 90,000.00 miles. i don't know why everyone is having bad experiences with the run flats. Mine have 57,000 miles on them all highly but still have another 30,000 left on them. The only problem i've had was a nail in one, took it to my dealer and they patched it for $35.00. they are noisy and ride hard but i don't know how anyone can run them bald in 10,000 miles or less. otherwise my car runs like new excpet it burns some oil once a month about 1/2 a quart.
I hate posting this, but my 2009 E90 335i is slow starting. If the car sits for a day or so it takes several seconds of cranking to fire. Hmmmm. Maybe a HPFP issue rearing its ugly head? Stay tuned.......

Current Miles: approx 56,000 miles
Major problem(s): Some B*tch nailed me head on after loosing control in a snow-storm after the car was 10 months old. 16k worth of damage - BMW autobody took 1.5 months to fix the car. (I'll tell you what, regardless of the pain in the ass of getting involved in an auto accident - if i was in another car, I would have been dead. Exterior body was trashed apart. The interior cabin was all intact and looked as if no accident had occured - very very very safe. The car doesnt drive the same although the dealer says it drives to the correct specs. (after a hit like that - forget it). lol. I'm still happy with it but plan on running it into the ground quickly...
Minor problem(s): Slight suspension squeek from driverside front - Dealer says it's intact and fine. (lol.) Finish on the steering wheel began to peel @ 20k. Dealer replaced steering wheel in full.
Modifications: Wax and polish.
Regular Maintenance: On time with everything. No issues
Update to my earlier posting. Went to start the car after having driven it the night before. Cranked for a good 20-seconds with no lighting up that twin-turbo. Stopped the ignition and re-tried. It lit. Called my SA. Have appt to bring it in after work next week and they will give me loaner. They want to try to start it after it sits in their lot overnight. I said to the SA I called to either be proactive on a starting problem or wait until it strands me somewhere. Their call. They said bring her in. Now at 7800 miles. Not disappointed either. The dealer is standing by their car and a repeat customer.

[Previous 2007 E90 328xi]
Type: E92
Model: 335xi
Miles: 1,500 miles
Major problem(s): Engine Malfunction @ 1,300 miles... engine wasn't outputting as much power as it usually does. Had to get a software rewrite, stuck in a loaner for about 3-4 days.
Minor problem(s): Now @ 1,500 miles my Service Engine Soon light won't turn off after fuel cap wasn't fully tightened...
Modifications: BMW installed Performance Power Kit
Love my car, love the extra boost from the Power Kit, just too many problems early on :-\
Build Month/Year: 12/2005
Type: E90
Model: 325i
Miles: 82,000 miles
Major problem(s): Power steering system; replaced twice! Water pump died at 78K miles, cost a nice even $1000
Minor problem(s): Tires run out after 30k miles and stock tires were way too loud! Brakes squeal, some trim on the interior door grab is coming off. Rear high mount stop light fell off. Rear window seal comes loose, won't stick even after dealership "fix". Battery replacement last week cost a cool $200, better than the $585 i was quoted by the dealer
Modifications: None
Any info on some of the minor problems, major problems others have encountered like mine, let me know!
08 335i E93 - wife's car
- Currently on fourth HPFP in 32,000 miles.
- A couple of dealer trips required to re-sequence the window motors with the top. Problem was one window would raise, then lower partially when the "all-up" button was used.
- All under warranty, but a real hassle as the dealer is 80 miles distant.
07 335i E92 - my car, built 03/07 - 63000 miles so far
- iPod interface required re-programming for bug
- bad O2 sensor replaced
- door handle and steering wheel paint peeling
- replaced rear light housings for intermittent bulb sensor illumination
- and, just today, 2 instances of "reduced engine power" on acceleration...probably indication that HPFP is going bad
2006, 325i
Major -
1. Engine ticking sound on cold start:
First, dealer said normal. Another dealer replaced oil lifter. Two month later, ticking sound came back. Just got the car back today from dealer with replaced cylinder head.
2. Rough idle:
when stop at red light, during RPM running down, it hesitates at around 700, then slowly down to 6.50. meantime starts vibrating. Very predictable. So every time when I stop, I will be expecting the vibration starts, and it does come every time. Passenger can feel the vibration clearly. Dealer checked without fault found. All spark plugs replaced, software updated. Not much improvement. Other dealers did side by side compression. Some have it, some don't.
3. RFT noisy like in hell . Some people think it is minor since it does not affect driving. I think it is major because it is very bothering and embarrassing.
Minor -
My dealer service advisor found center door lock stop working. Fixed yesterday.
BTW. I found this tread helpful and interesting to read. Thanks.
Last edited by xumba; 05-31-2010 at 03:39 PM. Reason: corrected rpm number
4000 miles.
Car rans hot at 95mph on free way (280 oil temp) on open road.
Fuel pump died at 3.5months at 4k miles, programing for new pump
failed and several electrical components needed to replaced etc...
to OVER 1 MONTH for repair... yes 1 month for a 3.5 month old
car... not happy about that.
Because of this they split the cost of oil cooler install for temp issue.
Just got car back and will test and post about new oil temps. (I'll
see if it was worth it).
After 1month repair job my ipod adapter didn't work. More electrical component issues. Taking it back monday AGAIN.
My opinion so far is...Not too happy with my 335s reliablity. It seems like BMW is getting a little ahead of
themselves releasing stuff or they are trying too much to save money
on shoddy components.
I do, when it is not in the shop, love driving the car. It's fast handles well and I like the way the coupes look a lot.
2010 335d
Miles: 5,500
Minor: 1) Starter needs to be replaced (howling like a banshee) Dealer says they haven't heard the noise so they won't replace it.
2) CAS unit needs to be replaced. It was broken while the dealer was trying to fix a software recall (see 6 below). I can expect to have my car back in 1 week!
3) both directional Xenon headlights needed to be replaced (passenger side at 1 mos & driver side at 2 mos)
4) driver side mirror screeching intermittently (never at the dealer)
5) oil at minimum at 5k miles
6) intermittent message saying engine start will not be possible in 999 miles due to a software recall at 5k miles.
Major: nothing so far, except that 2 trips to the dealer in a 3 mos old car is frustrating.
Mods: none
