Possible, yes but not practical in the long term as you need to establish initial communication through Carsoft first, then quickly swap to INPA.

Hi David mc, my try to send you pm wasn't success Okey, I see you have e36 and I hope you really enjoy of it, like I do. anyway, I just bought the cable, which called "Tiny ADS Interface with diagnostic connector for BMW - INPA/DIS/EDIABAS". So the question is, which software I should use ? INPA / DIS or EDIABAS ? my car is e36 93' and a heart is 1.8is (m42b18) 93' too. I`m downloading "INPA 2006" right now, but not feeling good about that webpage wich suggested the google for me (if you have some download roots for those softwares, would be appreciated). So, do I be able to access all modules with those items ? Anything need to know before connecting INPA + ADS (throw COM port) to my bmw ?

Good choice of cable- for your car you only need INPA v3.01/EDIABAS v6.4.3 and DIS v44. INPA is much quicker to use than DIS, but DIS includes a repair guide. Email me at swrfmaker (at) yahoo (dot) com (dot) au .

What does this "repair guide" does which comes with DIS ? Is it just a manual, how to repair smth, or is it some kind of programming availability to do tricks with windows/doors lock and so on.. ?

No, it has a series of inbuilt test plans with possible lists of faults and a guide to rectifying the problem. You can also load BMW Technical Information System (TIS) into DIS so that the factory service manual is accessible from within DIS. DIS is designed for dealer use, so it has a different platform to INPA which is used by BMW in house only.

You need an ADS interface for a E36. Dont let ebay vendors mislead you.

Can i trust Carsoft, what it shows for me?
Carsoft have special function ''LCM READING'', that reads car VIN and Total Mileage. Most cars in my country has total mileage correction, especially with diesel engines.

This is only a read function and is still incorporated in Carsoft v12.0. If you don't trust Carsoft, why not use INPA?

But, does INPA Can read real not corrected total mileage? I have not found that function in INPA.

I don't have a car to connect to INPA, but you can access the LCM, select your car, look under body and choose Light and Check Module (LCM). The data should be accessible from there.

    Hi!!!

I´ve bought the 6.5 carsoft. I´m getting the message "...module does not respond..." on every module with the exception of DME / DDE
My BMW is a 320D and I´m using the OBD2 connector under the dash, I´ve read that the problem could be that I must connect the cap in the connector under the hood but I´ve not connector there, only the OBD2 under the dash.

    Any idea to solve it?

    Thanks in advance. Regards.

Carsoft v6.5 is only good for cars built up to 4/2004. As it is a highly circulated non-genuine copy of the original Carsoft v6.5 beta product, the copies are also often incomplete. If however, your installation is functioning properly and the software is not crashing, the most likely cause of the problem is low battery voltage. Try accessing individual modules one at a time whilst you have a power supply hooked up to the car or whilst the engine is running.

Hi David, thanks for the answer.

Mi car is 2001 version, so I think that isn´t the problem. I´ve tested accesing individual modules with same result. The battery it´s almost new, 2 months old. The car engine is running during all the test.
The only thing that could be is that my laptop battery it´s very bad so I´ve it connected to a 300W power inventer on the cigarette lighter adapter.

    It could be that?

    Thanks!!

So, yesterday i was ''playing'' with INPA and it was possible to connect just with LME38 module and i don't find function like total mileage reading or info about that.

Bear in mind that not all models store this information in the LCM. INPA (and Carsoft) can only retrieve the data if it has been stored in the LCM. I take it that you can't access the Light and Check Module (LCM)?

With INPA, yes. But in Carsoft i choose Special Functions>> LCM Reading>> Reading and then carsoft read and show me my VIN number and my total mileage, which one i see in my instrument cluster ~346400.

When you open the LCM in INPA, what options do you have (e.g. Read Error Memory, Shadow Error Memory, Clear Error Memory, Activations, etc.)?

    I can't open LCM with INPA, if I CHOOSE LCM i get this table;

    Variant checking
Requested control unit: 'LCM,LCM_A,LCM_II,LCM_III,LCM_IV' not found. Control unit found:'LME38'. Program will be stoped!

So i have to choose LME38>>options are; Info, Identification, Functional coding, Error memory, Read status, Activate, Read memory.
