Oh sorry, I didnt explain. I removed, cleaned , wet sanded with 400grit, then 800, then 1000 and final wet sand with 2000. I then rotary polished them with a Polish ball attached to my cordless drill with the stuff below from Fiber Glast. A 2 step grit polish.
I think you can skip that step and go straight to an automotive clear coat. I decided to remove the Polish with soap and water because I didnt feel I was glossy enough and cleared them with a gloss clearcoat from Automotive Touch up. Great stuff!

Clearcoats are a easy way to make headlight/taillight lenses glossy but they won't offer any UV protection and consequently the same issues will arise down the road. Something like Opti Lens or one of the nano coatings would offer protection from UV. All of these, c-coat, Opti, and Cermic are not particularly resistant to impact and abrasion but that isn't as critical for tails like it is for headlights, that being said a modern PPF like Suntek Ultra would offer comprehensive protection; throw some ceramic coating on top of it for the ultimate setup.

This is categorically untrue.
First of all I have a can of dupli-color headlight clearcoat that explicitly specifies UV protection, and, other companies offer similar products. The duplicolor product has worked on my car perfectly for years and it doesn't get garaged much at all so most of the time out in the sun, often in direct sunlight. Its super evident if it doesnt work because a headlight that's been polished (and had the factory clearcoat polished off of it) will fog out and possibly also yellow very quickly.
Second, while duplicolor and SEM and various other paint mixufacturers sell "UV" clearcoats, I've been told with pretty good authority that virtually all modern automotive grade clearcoats have UV blockers in them. Whether that's less then the "UV" products, or, if the "UV" products are just marketing hype who knows... I could believe either way... but I know lotsa other guys have used 'off the shelf' clearcoat without problems as well.
There is no way I'd suggest to somebody to just use one of those wearing nano coatings without a proper clearcoat under it. Now if you want both for belt and suspenders, fine, but clearcoat works 100% fine for UV for polished headlights. Zero question about it.

At 152k miles still puts a smile on my face every time I see it.
I recently put new rear bushings and transformed the old rickety ride into something plush!
The shifter is getting sloppy now - debating should I install an e60 short shifter or just rebuild the original with new bushings etc.

The rear driver side air suspension of my E39 wagon goes down when I get home but it does not do it all the time. There are days when it stays up like it should and there are times when it just sinks. At first I though it would be a leaking bag but since it does not happen all the time then I wondering if this has a leveling sensor issue. During the times when it's down, the car starts rising when I start the car. Then when I get to my destination it stays up. It has happened before that when I get to my destination that it goes down. But normally it happens at home. The floor of my garage is level by the way. Recently, I left the house in a hurry so I did not wait for it to completely go up and left. Within a minute out of my garage I noticed that the back never came up so I was wondering if i made it worse after not waiting for the bag to fully inflate. Did anybody have the same problem in the past and what do you think is the issue?
