Nice! Sister car to mine right down to miles. Nice "pre-mods" it came with. Needs M mirrors - the mailboxes look terrible w th rest of the car "M'd". Too bad about the chrome, totally agree there. De-chroming can be problematic, maybe best to find a loser who likes chrome and make a trade? I will say it doesn't look as terrible cheezy as some wheel styles and body colors do, but still not ideal.

Thanks, having spent the last couple weeks reading this entire thread I am very familiar with your car! Mirrors are in the plans. Found a plater that will de-plate the wheels for 75$ per so that will likely be the plan. I have considered painting the wheels a subtle tasteful color also so for now I will probably plastidip them a charcoal color and see if I like it.
It is a decent car, full sport interior, has Pilots on the m-pars, recent timing chain (not sure exactly what all was done there as it was done by the ppo and I was told the guy "did the timing chain" so...), water pump, alternator. So far I have done headlight adjusters, urethane clearcoated headlamp lens, pixel strip, found an oem cargo cover and other odds and ends. Subframe bushings are in the que.

2002 M3 Journal
Something just occurred to me - can't tell from web pix but if that's not super shiny metallic chrome, there's a chance the chrome is chrome powder, not actual plating. If so removing it is way easier, and getting the wheels repainted (or more likely re-powdered...) is all a faster easier job.

He's still in biz, any of you's that have been in the BMW scene for a long time will imfamously know him from the OBDI days (e30, e28, e34, e24, etc....) He naturally progressed into the OBDII Bimmer's but has kept a much lower profile over the last 7yrs. If you tried emailing him you probably won't get a response. Calling him is your best best and the man knows his sh!t.
He does tunes for most modern BMW's but doesn't advertise his tunes so best to talk to him and discuss. Free plug for you Mark:

Back in an e39 and lovin it! Just acquired an 02 540i Touring Sport w/113k. Was gonna pick up an MSport but passed. Found two. Decided to save several grand and grab up this baby instead. Super clean and maintained. New timing chain, guide rails, timing sprockets, tensioner, gaskets and seals as well as Vanos taken care of. Can't wait to start modding this baby out! Have to wait on delivery though. This is my 4th e39. Previous 2000 540iA sport, 2000 540i 6spd sport and a 2000 M5. Totally dig these cars. I'm BACK!

Hello E39 touring enthusiasts, I love my car too. But some repair will be still left. Do you know when I replace rear wishbone, do I need remove damper to get the inner long bolt off?
Oddly, that's the first time that I've seen someone ask about the inner part of the rear control arm.... I can tell you that removing the lower damper bolt is very easy though. Also, the upper is easy to remove. You have to remove the trunk floor to get at them. There are two small covers over the dampers too. These parts are more tedious than the damper mountings.
Nice. One of early cars I looked at was a real 2003 Msport in that Slate Green. Would have been a great unicorn car too - even had 'stone green' matching interior, except... it was a serious fright pig. Tons of stuff broken. What wasn't broken was worn out. Run hard, put away wet. Had been driven over something at some point (think launched over a median curb maybe?) Real mess. Man did I want it to be good but it was not.
Not a fan of beige interior by any means, but yours looks minty as can be like it just came out of the factory brochure photoshoot, and a Sport too obv, so an acceptable compromise.

Thanks. Can't wait to customize it a bit. Been researching what wheels to match up with it. Possible paint or plastidip colors. Or new 19" style.

I hear ya. Only other touring in the US I like is the e34. Looking to grab one up some day.

Yes. That was exactly my thought process when buying. Never was a fan of the beige interior myself. But to compensate I plan on replacing the fronts with M5 comforts, I believe they're called. (The pleated ones) And reupholstering them with ultrsuede beige inserts and the surround with brown leather that matches the upper dash. The same in the rear. Been looking at some Bronze carbon fiber/Kevlar weave to lay over the wood trim. Not at huge fan of that wood as well. Piano black lacquered my 740i trim. My M5 was bought with carbon fiber vinyl wrap. Looking forward to the customizations. DIY on trim. And later the M-tech front and rear bumpers with amber fogs. Still need to decide on wheels. 18" or 19" and what style?...
Thanks.
