Hi, I am new to the forums and I do not own a BMW as of now. I have a 2003 Lincoln Navigator and 2007 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. I want to know if it is worth it to invest in a BMW 745Li (2004-2005). I want your opinions please and tell me what to choose between a BMW 745Li, Mercedes-Benz S-500 or Audi A8.
, Thanks
I really appriciate it...
It sounds like unhelpful advice, but the truth is the best thing you can do is test drive each car.
well ive driven all three cars so ill give you my opinion.
1999-2004 mercedes s430-s600:
handleing: feel like boat alot of body roll but its cured if you go with a s55.
speed: slow unless again you go with the s55.
comfort: decent i would compair it to my 2000 740i sport nothing really special about it.
safety: got to give it 5 stars here my brother was recently rear ended by a pt cruiser and only sufferd a bent exhaust tip the pt cruiser was totaled.
2003-2006 audi a8:
handleing: id say its in the same boat as the s500 nothing that makes you wow.
speed. now this car is slow 0-60 felt like 8 to 9 second range.
comfort: way more comfortable than the s500 in my opinion and alot nicer interior.
saftey: no comment havent really had the chance to crash one yet so ill let you know lol.
bmw 745li:
ive been driving the 745i for a while now and its one of the best cars ive ever driven it just does everything and more. as for maitnance i see you have corvette and would consider you car/diy guy so yo shouldnt have any trouble doing you own oil changes and brakes they are way easier to do than on you vette.
handleing: for a car this size its pretty incredible what this car can do.
speed: 0-60 in about 5.5 to 6.0 is pretty quick plus the power is really smooth and it get s great gas mileage on the hwy the best to date 32.8mpg at 85-90mph on the way to vegas.
safety: ive been rear ended in this car by a 16 year old driving a pos toyota camary only sufferd a scuffed bumper and one broken parking sensor her car needed to be towed.
just make sure if you go with the bmw make sure its a 2003 and up and has the extended bumper to bumper warranty by the orignal owner otherwise run.
Thanks, sounds like great advice so I might as well be sticking with the 7 series. We are planning on buying a 2004-2005 so we're good. One more question, are the 745Li discontinued? I know 750s and 760s are out there but I think they stopped 745 in 2006-2007.. is this true?
I tend to agree with pugads650..with a few other thoughts...
1) Both the Audi is 4wd, and the MB has options for 4wd.. Other than that, each car has its plusses, but they don't call it the Ultimate Driving Machine for nothin'
So are the 745 discontinued? or do they still make them?
yes the 745 is discontinued in 2006 when they switched over to the 750 were they pretty much just upgraded the lights and i think it has a little more power but when i test drove the 750i it didnt feel any faster to me not worth the extra $$$$$ in my opinion pretty much the same car.
do you really wanna pay an extra 20k for newer looking lights.
that's what the on board computer was telling me at one point but the average seems to be around 27-28 mpg.
But this was is in a 745i not the li which I think is rated lower.
