Exclamation RED light circle icon? wat does it mean?

when i started my car and drove for 45 seconds a red lit icon appeared on my dash. it is a circle and it is surrounded by 6 blocks. 3 on each side... i don't know how to explain it better sorry but i think that means something is messed up i just don't know what happened and if i should drive it still. if anyone had any info about that i would greatly appreciate it, oh and my car is a 93 325i if that helps.

Brake lining sensor. Pull your wheels off and inspect your pads. The brake lining sensor that is affected will need to be replaced. You might need new pads as well.

Usually those pad sensors only cause the light if they get damaged. I'd look over your pad sensors and see if you see any visible damage. If it's damaged, then you need to replace it.

If you routinely change your brake pads before the light appears then the sensor never becomes used (damaged) and can be kept. Once the light is illuminated, the brake sensor must be replaced.
